Expectations

From the posts I've been reading here, everybody seems to be happy if the Bruins make the Sweet 16. We're a basketball school, people! We have more NCAA men's basketball championships than any other school, period! We should expect nothing less than a national title every year! Sure, we're not gonna win one every year but it sure as hell doesn't hurt to expect one. That's where our high expectations should be, a sport in which we have a proven track record in, not one where we are prone to late season collapses (ahem ahem).

It is unreasonable to expect our UCLA football team to go undefeated, considering the coaches and players we have. Our roster is not littered with All-American players like some schools are. And if our athletic department is not willing to pony up the money to spend it on a quality coach, then you better cross your fingers and hope for the best. We are lucky and fortunate to be 8-1 this point in the season after going 6-6 last year. A win over USC would be nice, but reality indicates otherwise. A trip to the Holiday Bowl would be a vast improvement from our outings in Vegas. The game tomorrow will not be a gimme. The Bruins will have to fight for every down and scrap for every yard.
