Ben Olson leaving UCLA?

I ran into Pat and Joe Cowans Aunt and Uncle the other day and we got to talking of the game and how great it was.  He told me that he has been a U$C fan forever and he couldn't believe he was rooting for UCLA. He had a UCLA hat on and USC sweat pants..Anyway's, he asked me what I thought Ben Olson would do. I said "well, I think he will be the starter and we will have a great and experienced back up."  He thought that Olson would transfer to another school because he just wants to play in the NFL. He would not be the starter after what Pat had done against USC.  I love Pat for beating SC and I will never forget those great runs he had. But, I know that Ben Olson has the potential to be a great QB, he has that RAW Talent. I think Pat Earned a Start against FSU,But after that Ben should get a lot of playing time against FSU.  My point is he made me paranoid..  I really hope we don't lose Ben, my gut feeling is that Karl will make the right choice.  What do you guys think?

Go Bruins!!

not concerned
Pat is one of the best backup QB's in the nation.  He's good, but he's not the starter.  Ben should have plenty of time to prove to Dorrell that he is the starter for the FSU game and beyond.

Me either
BO has already used a redshirt year so if he transfers to a D1 program, he would only be able to play 1 year.

That really is the bottom line
He's only got two years of eligibility left.  Transferring would burn one of them.  He's not going to do that.

In a perfect world
Ben would start next year, go to the NFL and then Pat would take over for his Senior season, then hand the reigns off to Forcier or whoever.  If we can bring in a decent OC (Neuheisel?) I still think Ben gives us the best opportunity to win.  He's just a more accurate more polished passer.

Due respect to PC
But, in a perfect world, BO starts the next two years, UCLA recruits a couple 5 star QBs, and PC stays around as a reliable, if not spectacular, back up.  Just saying.

August is a long way away
For all we know, Cowan could suffer a Ben Olson type injury or worse in practice and end up taking a medical red-shirt.  Point being, there are a ton of things that could happen between now and next season that will make the situation easier to deal with.

As mentioned above, I don't think there's any way that Olson transfers considering his eligibility situation.  But ultimately, the job will open during spring and fall practice, and hopefully the competition will only help those guys improve.
