Just As I Suspected (We Rock)

From the diaries. Keep them coming. GO BRUINS. -N

After tonight's game I kept thinking to myself, "damn, we just made the rest of the Pac 10 look like the Washington Generals to our Harlem Globetrotters." So when I got home, I decided to do some number crunching to see how our conference tourney run stacked up to those of other conference tourney champs. Drumroll please...we're #1 (que "Sons of Westwood"). Our 21 point average margin of victory edged Iona, of the daunting Metro Atlantic Conference, for tops in the country. Here are the numbers I came up with. Sorry if the formatting sucks, I'm a little tipsy.

AMOV    Team            Conference
21      UCLA            Pac 10
20.33   Iona            Metro Atlantic
20      South Alabama   Sun Belt
18      Winthrop        Big South
15      Wisconsin Mil.  Horizon
14.66   Memphis         Conference USA
13.66   Bucknell        Patriot
13.66   Southern        Soutwestern
13.33   Albany          American East
13      Oral Roberts    Mid Continent
13      UNC Wilmington  Colonial
12.66   Southern Ill.   Missouri Valley
11.66   Murray St.      Ohio Valley
11.33   Davidson        Southern
10.66   Belmont         Atlantic Sun
10.33   Nevada          WAC
9.5     Pacific         Big West
9       Kent St.        Mid American
8.75    Hampton         MEAC
8.66    Monmouth        Northeast
7.5     Montana         Big Sky
6.66    San Diego St.   Mountain West
6.25    Xavier          Atlantic 10
2.5     Gonzaga         WCC
2       Syracuse        Big East

Just in case you're wondering if any of the teams playing their conference tourney final today have a shot at overtaking the Bruins in this category...not bloody likely. The team with the best chance, and I use the term "chance" here loosely (the way *Lloyd Christmas uses it) is Northwestern State who would have to beat Sam Houston by 36 to top our average margin of victory. Here are the magic numbers for the teams with one game left to play in their tourneys:

Northwestern St (36)
Florida (45)
Boston College (47)
Duke (48)
Kansas (49)
Iowa (49)
OSU (50)
Texas (53)
Sam Houstn (56)
South Carolina (57)

*Lloyd: Hit me with it! I've come a long way to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?

Mary: Not good.

Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?

Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.

Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance.
