Am I the only one not thirsty

for the Hate-o-rade?

I LOVE UCLA.  And I know everyone else here on this site does too.  But I feel like a lot of posting up here is all about how this sportswriter is dumb, and that coach is dumb, and this TV network, or newspaper columnist, or whoever else says bad things about us deserves to be strung up by their giggleberries.

There are so many great stories going on in college basketball (not just at UCLA, but at other schools like GMU), but it seems like the negative sentiments outweigh the positive ones by about 20-to-1.

I think it is awesome that everyone here is so passionate about UCLA sports (and damn well they should be!), but I feel like we should take an example from classy coaches like John Wooden and Ben Howland, who would have challenged all these dumbass media types by WINNING, and not by saying how stupid they are, or how biased they are.  I think we are well aware of the world we live in and the way that many sportswriters and people in the MSM look at West Coast basketball, but if we truly are the classy students, alumni, and friends of the UCLA program that we are supposed to be, shouldn't we be above the jealousy or stupidity that they exude, instead of stooping to their levels and complaining about it?  I fear that non-Bruins visiting this site may think we are just a bunch of whiners, when in fact we are just people who love UCLA and want people to be aware that we not only have a great sports program but an amazing University with the world's best students and alumni.

I'll admit that there have been times that reading what these sportswriters have said and listening to some of the talking heads has annoyed me.  I may have even posted a comment or 2 about it.  But it seems like there are some people who just like to post about all the bad things other people say about us.

Don't ever lose the passion that you guys have for UCLA sports.  I would rather hear a bunch of bitching than a bunch of apathy.  I'm not saying that every post should be some happy lovefest.  I just think it can be done without so much complaining.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Stop whining ...
if you want to whine about the passionate posts that are going up here - then why don't you try putting up something positive and change the topic instead of whining about what others are writing.

By the way
Sorry about "your" Horns getting hooked by LSU.

Awesome
I ask people to stop whining, and that means I'm whining.

Good times.

Your post is a little silly ...
it is more than legit for UCLA fans to get a little worked over the assclownery in the MSM. And why shouldn't they vent their frustrations here in this community and get it out of their system.

You look like a total foolio complaining about others  venting on UCLA getting slighted.

Guess that's what happens when people spend time in

It's called a blog
This is a venue in which, by definition, members of the UCLA community can instantaneously express their views and discuss the day's events in real-time.  Why can't we talk the MSM's flawed reporting?  Why shouldn't we vent about the biases, misperceptions and outright falsehoods we see all too often?  Would you have us just sit here quitely and say nothing until the next game?  Apparently so:
I feel like we should take an example from classy coaches like John Wooden and Ben Howland, who would have challenged all these dumbass media types by WINNING, and not by saying how stupid they are, or how biased they are

Seeing as I'm not a player, I can't do a whole bunch to help us win.  I can root for the team, support its programs, attend its events and discuss all this with my fellow fans.  But, what you suggest leaves me with nothing, which is contrary to the point, I think, of this whole site.

Also, I don't give a rat's ass about this:

I fear that non-Bruins visiting this site may think we are just a bunch of whiners

They can think whatever they want.  And, trust me, I don't care.

And, finally, why shouldn't UCLA fans be able to express their opinions and offer a voice other than DSPN?  A battle must be joined to be won, and this, my friend is, in part, a battle of ideas, or at least rhetoric.

This may all sound a bit harsh, particularly since I think you were trying to just say "don't sweat the small stuff," but that's not how your post comes across (and I've, frankly been irked by your UT posts and, we'll, I'm human).

So, as punishment, your entries must be no longer than 15 words for the next week (if that is possible, though I doubt it).

uclawarren are you also a fan of wiretapping?
So you'd like to censor us when we respond to disrespect? Are you even a fan of sports? It's a debate. Part of our objection to these articles is the blatant neglect offered by the people professing themselves as experts. I like debating their merits. Like when Dick(head) V said Memphis AND Gonzaga would beat UCLA over the weekend. Neither happend so why should we be quiet about it when his follow up is telling us we win 'ugly' or there's a conspiracy to help UCLA. I think it's obvious none of the basketball experts want to move to the west coast to follow the best team.

Okay, okay
Fine...I retract my statement.  I've always been of the attitude of "F--k 'em, they don't deserve my attention," but I can see that it is not an attitude shared by most.  I don't have a problem with disputing what people in the media say every now and then, I just felt like it was overpowering all of the good stuff that was going on.  I don't run this blog, and I feel like everyone is entitled to his own opinion.  I don't necessarily disagree with anything anyone is saying about the MSM, I just felt like some (not all) people cared more about complaining than anything else.

But even with all this feedback, I don't harbor any ill will.  Hopefully, you guys can feel the same way.

Talking Smack...
If I can jump in - and I've only been posting for less than a month... I think the balance to shoot for is talking great smack - which means bashing a guy like Ammo while he's on the court, but being open-minded enough to compliment his class and skills after we kick his ass (as most on this site have done).

I have significantly less hate for Lavin and Dorrell than others on this site, but trust me, I respect the HUGE gap between them and a classy bball genius like Howland.

And I love the fact that UCLA is bashed for playing ugly - we need all the attitude we can get on Saturday vs. LSU...
