I thought I'd take some of the heat off of uclawarren by raising an issue and making a confession.
I'm a proud UCLA alumni, who graduated in the winter of 1994. I've been to most every UCLA football game played in the state of California. I've held season tickets since before I graduated. I've slept outside for basketball tickets, the Rose Bowl, and have been chased by riot police in Westwood. Almost every t-shirt I own says "UCLA" on it somewhere.
But (cue the music as I stand up in the YMCA meeting room), my name is Cocoman25, and I went to graduate school at USC.
I know for some of you, this is an unpardonable offense. And, by saying this, I might be ending my welcome here. But, I would rather be up front with you, and let the chips fall where they may.
So, lets answer some questions. Am I a SC fan? Hell, no. I detest them. I've never attended a USC sporting event, other than when they were playing UCLA, and that was to root for UCLA. I don't watch their games, or support their teams, and I have never posted on a USC blog. Why then, did I go to SC? They offered me a full scholarship when UCLA wouldn't. And, I had several UCLA friends doing the same thing and I rationalized it since 33% of the students in the program were Bruins. So, when choosing between two evenly ranked programs, I picked the one that was free, and not the one that would have put me in a $100k hole. Thinking with my pocketbook, and not my heart, which isn't always the best way to go, I know.
So, judge me if you will. Just know that my loyalty is undivided. I love UCLA and will support it until the day I die. But, can a USC alumni be welcomed in this Bruin Community? We'll see.
