Vitale Officially Jumps on the Bruin Bandwagon

Dukee V discovers something we already knew - Bruins are back:

Santa Claus recently came early for UCLA coach Ben Howland. It's been a special time for Howland at the beautiful Westwood campus. Howland recently signed a seven-year extension with the Bruins, a true reward for leading UCLA to the Final Four last season.

When you think about the world of college basketball, UCLA is known for its great winning tradition under John Wooden. Just think about all of those championship banners hanging at Pauley Pavilion. Howland led the Bruins to their first Final Four since cutting down the nets under Jim Harrick in 1995 so it was fitting the school rewarded him with the contract extension.

The UCLA coach also received good news when Kevin Love, who some consider to be the best big player in America, said no to North Carolina and yes to the Bruins. Brings back memories of Lew Alcindor saying yes to John Wooden when the big fella came out of Power Memorial in New York City. Then there was the big redhead, Bill Walton coming out of San Diego. We know how their careers went!

As for the immediate future, factor in Arron Afflalo coming back, even with his foot injury, and he will anchor a very good UCLA team this season. Yes, Jordan Farmar moved uptown and will play a different role with the Lakers but the bottom line is things are looking up long-term for the Bruins. The Wizard of Westwood, Mr. Wooden, has to be smiling because he loves this program.

My friends, the Bruins are back as a prominent factor in college basketball again! Thanks Dick except the Bruins are not going to be just "a prominent factor" but THE FACTOR for years to come. Now get in line because the bandwagon is full with Bruin fans who have been with this team through those long and ugly Lavin years. But thanks for taking note anways.

Gooo Bruins!!!!
