This is pure speculation, but after reading this from The Press Enterprise:
Despite Marcus Everett being the latest Bruin to fumble a punt, Dorrell said in a conference call Monday that running back Chris Markey and receivers Everett and Terrence Austin would continue to return punts.Markey, who fumbled in the opener, did not return a punt Saturday because of a sore knee.
it makes me wonder if he sat out so long in the 3rd because he told the coaches at the half that his knee was starting to bother him? Just a guess.
