Ranking UCLA Teams From 1939-present

This interesting information was compiled by a fellow Bruin Alum who goes by the name "Maverick Bruin" in Bruin online communities. Maverick gave us his permission to publish his work on BN. He attempts to rank the top football teams since 1939. Mav didn't use any fancy computer to generate his rankings, but did it the old fashion way, using his brain. It looks fairly logical to me. FWIW Dorrell's teams finished 60th (2003), 56th (2004), and 22nd (2005) in his rankings. At least KD is moving up! If you have thoughts, comments on Maverick's efforts as always post them in the comment thread.

Find out where Heisman Winner Gary Beban's teams are ranked. -N

The 67 seasons are divided into three somewhat subjective and irrelevant tiers. The first 32 teams are those that finished the season ranked somewhere in the top 20 (or 25, but we have never had a team that finished 21-25 so it's moot).  The next 21 were teams that were ranked at some point (other than before the first game, which I disregarded) which suggests that they gave the fans some hope and excitemewnt at some point before fading.  The bottom 14 teams were never ranked.  I suppose a team that was never ranked but managed to win a bowl game might qualify for the second tier, but again, that has never happened in 67 seasons, so it is also moot.
