From our alcor805 (805 BTW for you non Californians is the area code for BO's hometown Thousand Oaks) on the Olsons digging BO's BN nickname:

I like it ("Southpaw Jesus") because Ben thinks it's funny, his parents think it's great. His pastor in Thousand Oaks said it promotes the merits of his Mormon mission and reminds his fans that here is a great quarterback who cast aside his greatest talent for 2 of his prime years in order to promote his beliefs.

The man has done the routine task of beating a WAC, errrr... Mountain West team. Lets not saint him (or messiah him) so quickly. Now if next week he can turn my $4 bottle of Rose Bowl water into wine I'll reconsider.

SPJ

So, the name is definitely spreading. Slowly but surely. However, during the game, when SPJ completed his 7th straight, my friend and I tried to start a SPJ chant, but no one bought in.... AUGH We need to spread this name enough to enable chants!!!!!

Question?

There was a group of guys wearing England football (American) jerseys in the student section who were singing different chants throughout the game. Anyone have any idea who they are? Club? Special students? Any help would be great. They certainly made the game more pleasant to watch in the 100 degree heat. GO BRUINS!!!

I can understand if some of the Christian faith...

...don't like the nickname that much. They may feel it trivializes their faith. Obviously, we mean no disrespect by it, but what can you do?

It reminds me of a call I once heard on the Jim Rome Show when Nebraska was going to play Notre Dame one weekend. One guy had the last laugh by saying:

"I know both sides will most likely be praying for their boys to win, or at least so that nobody gets hurt. I understand that. God doesn't care who wins a football game.

As I stated on another post I thought those insulted by the nick were off base for many reasons, including the fact that the nick promotes Jesus. The one thing that would have made me support NOT using the nick was if BO did not support it. If what he, his family, and pastor think is actually what alcor805 says, then its clear we have a winner!!

Anyhow, check out those ridiculous opening game numbers! Can he be our programs savior? You bet. He may even force me to shut down DumpDorrell.com. Whoa, lets not get ahead of ourselves!
