Official: Dorrrell Fires (Scapegoats) Svoboda

Bumped from the diaries. Dorrell passes the buck. Shocking news. Just shocking. GO BRUINS.- N

UPDATE II: Per this post on BruinGold (according to Rivals) candidates for new OC include the names of Walt Harris, Eric Bienemy, Tom Cable, and Mike Canales (Arizona OC). I don't see someone like Harris coming in and tanking under KD. And why would Bienenemy and Cable want to come to Westwood if they know KD may get fired at the end of next season if he doesn't win Pac-10 next season?

UPDATE I: Here is a comment from the Scapegoater himself in the AP wire report:

"This was a hard decision to make," Bruins coach Karl Dorrell said in a statement. "Jim has done a good job working with our quarterbacks over the last three years. However, I felt that a change was in the best interests of the overall offense." Well it's official. Dorrell makes his first decision of the excuse season, I mean off season, official. From the OC Register: UCLA offensive coordinator Jim Svobodawas relieved of his duties today, leaving Coach Karl Dorrell in the position of hiring his fourth offensive coordinator in five seasons.

The Bruins, 7-6 this season with a loss to Florida State in the Emerald Bowl, struggled to move the football with any consistency throughout the season. UCLA averaged 23 points per game, and only twice in the past 10 years and five times in the past 20 years has a Bruins' team scored fewer points per game. The Bruins averaged 5.13 yards per play.

UCLA scored 30 or more points in only two games - victories over Utah and Stanford, getting a defensive touchdown against the Utes and a special teams touchdown against the Cardinal.

The dismissal comes one season after Svoboda was a finalist for the Frank Broyles Award, which goes to the nation's top assistant coach. Svoboda had been credited for guiding former Bruin quarterback Drew Olson in his record-breaking, 2005 season.

The question is will any reputable offensive coordinator or coach risk his job/reputation and take a job under a mediocre coach like KD who as we all know likes to scapegoat like no other?

No word yet on whether Dorrell will take over himself as OC or find someone else. I hope he takes over himself that way if he can't win the Pac-10 next season it will be all on him.

Go Bruins.
