Eric Scott's Football 101: Essay Writing

cross-posted from DumpDorrell.com

So it's not just Karl Dorrell who's on the Football 101 kick.  Just when you thought UCLA football couldn't get any more odd, Chris Foster of the LA Times uncovers this bit of fodder for the faithful:

The moment that turned UCLA's struggles into a 40-14 victory over Oregon State on Saturday had been prophesied 24 hours earlier, when receivers coach Eric Scott asked his players to write an essay about the game. Breazell's response was to the point: "I told him I was the baddest [guy] he was ever going to coach. All I needed was the ball and I was going to make plays."

Now this ... what do you say to this??   A 3-time convict caught hanging around a drug drop with an unregistered gun in the hands of one of his friends in mid-day right before Media Day, is now using new age teaching methods to prepare football players for a game??   Write an essay?  Is this some form of self-help visualization technique??   Ok ... who's buyin this crap?  And our coaches wonder why people say our team is soft.  Utah redshirt freshman backup players said our team was soft and cried like babies. Wonder why??  Our coaches have them writing essays before games.

This is what you get when you go to the high school assistant coaching ranks to fill out your coaching staff.  Nice.  Can't wait for the book to come out.
