Former UCLA School of Public Policy teacher, Veep, Oscar Winner, Emmy Winner wins Nobel Peace Prize. From Jan 1, 2001:Al Gore Teaching at UCLA
Former Vice President Al Gore announced plans Jan. 25 to teach at UCLA and three other universities. He will be at UCLA Jan. 31 to participate in a faculty symposium with Chancellor Albert Carnesale and Professor of Pediatrics and Public Health Neal Halfon.
Gore will be here to develop a new curriculum for family-centered community building, a multidisciplinary approach that brings together authorities from such fields as education, business and public policy to work on problems that ail our society and affect our children. The curriculum is being created for a path-breaking new course in cooperation with the National Academic Consortium at the UCLA Institute for Children, Families and Communities, directed by Halfon.
"Tipper and I have been fortunate to participate in an exciting time in America's history as we move into the new century," said Gore in a statement. "We look forward to sharing our experiences with students and American families and learning from them."
The former vice president and presidential candidate said he plans to meet regularly with students and faculty on campus. He also will be teaching at three other universities - Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro and Fisk University in Nashville - in addition to his teaching and research work at UCLA.
Al Gore joins Ralph Bunche's exclusive Nobel Peace Prize winners club. And yes, Al Gore has a UCLA connection!
I do not think anyone else can claim winning an Oscar, Emmy, and Nobel Peace Prize in the same year!
