What Could Have Been...
So we all know, Karl Dorrell sucks as a coach. that's a given. But let's assume we had a decent coach this season, and hadn't lost to Utah and Notre Dame. Where would we be now?
This may just be salt in the wound, but the food for thought is just below...
We would probably be ranked 2nd tomorrow. Crazy, but true.
In the last poll before the Utah loss we were 11th, right behind Ohio State. Boston College (2nd tomorrow, most likely) was ranked 19th and 21st.
Depending no what happens in the Washington/Arizona St. game we'd be either sole owner of 1st in the PAC-10 or half a game behind ASU.
This season has been perfect for us, ignoring our play. The right teams have lost at the right times, and if we had a halfway decent coach we'd be in a position to possibly play for the National Championship. There is no one in the PAC-10 that doesn't look beatable. Even USC has had three close games against inferior opponents, two of which we beat on the road.
Now sure, technically we still have a chance to win he PAC-10. Maybe a few more starting quarterbacks can get hurt. But its most likely not going to happen with Dorrell coaching.
Just thought I'd throw this out there. Where we should be right now. 2nd.

There is no way BC should be ranked
USF played a good team and wiped them out. Boston College played Notre Dame, for crying out loud. Anyone team other than an intramural team beats Notre Dame. They won't beat anyone at all this year. (UCLA doesn't count, being an intramural team (i.e., it has no coaching staff.))
I don't get a lot of votes in the various polls, but I would make it USF, then tOSU, then Oklahoma, then BC. I don't think you deserve to move up with an unimpressive win over a cupcake.
Yea
The 2nd part of your post was right on. If we had a good coach, and our team was playing the way it should have, the ball would be in our court now. This team would control its own destiny. How long has it been since we had this opportunity? I haven't seen it since I started following CFB (in about 2002-2003).
We'd be in solid BCS position...

And thanks to OSU...
You know, I was expecting CTS to pull off a Lavin-esque bounce-back win this weekend, staving off the MSM wolves for at least a little while.
However, with tedford all clipboard-slamming mad, I DON'T think that's as likely to happen anymore.

I don't know if this means anything, but
Maybe the answer for CTS is to grow a bigger clipboard and keep it outside the gabardine.
I think CTS could market new kinds of sportswear..
Just imagine:
"For thinking, professional men, looking to make their progressions in today's business world...
"You have hands-free cell phones.
"Why not hands-free portfolios?
"Coming from CTS Enterprises -- DOCKER LOCKERS.
"Convenient, comfortable docuemnts holder protectors you wear inside your pants.
"With a variety of colors to match all your Dockers and other business-casual slacks.
"There's khaki, dark brown, charcoal gray, slate gray, and navy blue.
"Available in letter and legal sizes."
