A Fantastic Win Over Cal!

I mean that in all seriousness simply because we beat Cal. Cal, for some reason, brings out the very worst in me. I don't think I've ever come across a more pretentious group of fans that have no freakin' clue about sports or what it means to be a winner.

Yes, they piss me off more than SC fans. I can deal with the obnoxiousness of SC fans because that can be explained by success going to one's head. I don't like it very much, but I can deal with it and it can be explained (also, I find that band wagon fans are extremely volatile wherever you find them and SC has a good share of them). You can also explain it through general dumbassery. Cal, on the other hand, cannot be explained.

Message to Cal fans - you have done nothing for the Pac-10. Football championships from the time when Jesus was turning water into wine are irrelevant to me. Was the forward pass even invented yet? Co Pac-10 Championships are merely cute if you can only do it once. Being perennial Holiday Bowl contestants does not make you an important team.

You will never matter in the the realm of football and basketball. Your teams continually crap themselves when they have to perform in high pressure situations. Your "god" Tedford has a LOSING record against Coach Sleepy. Do you understand that? Coach Sleepy has your number! That is beyong pathetic and emblematic of your sports in general. "Little sister" is roughly 70 years your junior and has over 70 more championships than you! Save me your speeches on your intermural rugby team. We all play by the same NCAA rules. Cal just ended up being good at a sport that is irrelevant. That is nobody elses fault but your own. Quit complaining.

Oh...and another thing. If I have to hear that "You're stupid and couldn't get into Cal" argument one more time, I'm going to go insane simply because of that pure stupidity of the statement. UCLA is still a flagship UC school and UCLA is still world renowned for its academics. Your diss is the equivalent of a Harvard grad telling a Stanford grad that (s)he is an idiot for not getting into Harvard. Ha! Stanford is still a phenomenal school. Speaking of Stanford...that is all YOU ARE. You are Stanford rejects that end up at a school and is only slightly better than UCLA academically with no sports history and very hairy women. You could only dream about being the best academic-athletic school in the nation.

We have been having conversations on here about why wins don't feel good under Coach Sleepy. This is the one game where I feel FANTASTIC after winning. To knock Cal fans off their damn pedestal  that they created with their own sense of self-importance is a very, very good feeling. Cal, you have no idea what sports are about. You have no idea how to act. Even mentioning the idea of firing Tedford because of this loss illustrates that fact that you are not deserving of a good football team. You are ridiculous. You are sad. You are embarassing for the Pac-10. You disgrace Cal fans that actually have a clue (I know many).

Until you can learn how to act, this will be a game I will truly enjoy being the victor of. Saturday, despite the fact that Coach Sleepy did everything he could to lose the game (punting on Cal's 38!!!!!!!), was a very good day.

End of rant. It is 4:50am my time and I'm thinking I should go to bed. My apologies for typos due to a lack of sleep and over-studying. Go Bruins!

i agree 1000%
i don't care if we lose to any of the other pac-10 teams (well i do care, i always want ucla to win)...even sc's obnoxious fans have some right to be arrogant (as if anyone has a right to be so arrogant) since at least they have championships... but ucb's fans have always been the worst... and as for academics, until ucb can hang with the ivies, they should just shut up (but of course they won't = obnoxious)

Why
Why is there ads for usc trojan clothing, etc. on this website?

by Peter Petersen on Oct 22, 2007 8:59 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

It is automated
And is going to ad space reserved by SBN network's ad space. It is probably showing up automatically because USC shows up a lot on BN posts and diaries.

Regardless we have notified our colleagues who run the SBN network, we don't like it.

Also note none of the moderators have taken in a single penny from any of the adst that have been placed on BN for last 2+ years. We haven't even collected the measly ad revenue generated by blogads on the left hand column. It is sitting at some paypal column. We may return that $ to SBN or could donate it to the band or the Den. We haven't decided it yet.

Even though we are part of SBN network, we are writing here strictly as amateurs, volunteers for the love of UCLA.

Thanks.

Cool
I wasn't harping on you guys for it, it was just the last place I would expect to see the ad.  What about putting the money into the fund for a new coach?

A tough one for me
I do generally have an affection for Cal as an institution, even for their teams; my grandfather having played football for Cal just before WWII, many other family members having attended the university over the years, and growing up minutes from campus.

Sadly, I can't dispute anything that you have posted here. Not all Cal fans are as pathetic as those you describe, but for some reason a significant number are simply obnoxious assholes when it comes to sports. Not as bad as southern cal fans IMO, but as stated, at least they have something to back up their talk.

After reading this blog, I don't know whether to be embarassed for the writer, or for myself having nearly a century of family history invested in that school.

Yep
That guy's synapses are not firing off correctly. It is almost pathetic.

And yes
Cal is a great institution. I'm excited about the possibility of going up there next year for football. The fan base though...wow. That's all I can say about them. Wow. It has to suck a lot for the one's that have a clue.
