Post Game Thread: We Lost ...

to fucking Notre Dame.

Discuss amongst yourselves ...

(Seriously, I predicted this in an email to Nestor and the rest of the gang when it was decided I had to put up the post game thread. I'm supposed to put up a picture and everything ... but I'm either too drunk, too disgusted or both. Find your own damn picture ...)

UPDATE: I don't want Nestor to get pissed at me -- he might force me to re-watch the second half as punishment -- so here's your friggin' picture.)

It's a picture of Ben Olson getting sacked. Are you happy now?

It should have been simple
When BO went out, go to two tight ends, put in a fullback, but one WR out wide........and run the ball every single play against the worst defense in NCAA football.

It should have been simple.....tell the offense, your job is not to win the game, its to not lose it

It should have been simple---play a field position game, knowing ND couldn't get a drive going over 30 yards

But even simple is over KD's head

Yup
UCLA could have won 6-3.  Offensively, only way ND was making positive yardage was via penalties on UCLA.  Their offense was just pathetic, and their defense was susceptible to the run.

At 6-3, we could have just hung on to win.

LOL
I am really lol (can't go to sleep yet).

We will have two post game posts tonight.

Its a special night.

by Nestor on Oct 6, 2007 9:34 PM PDT reply actions

"special" - you mean
I'll be up a while. Until the alcohol supply in my apartment dries up and my old collection of hard rock and HS-era rap metal runs out.

Gonna be a long night.

This better be the last straw
What an embarrassment!  Yeah, I already hear the apologists saying "Well, we're still #1 in the Pac-10."  What a load of crap.  Like I want to watch this team underperform each week.  Our QB's have had no time to throw all year and have been pressured and sacked constantly.  Who's fault?  Coaching.  3rd string QB is a walk-on.  This due to the fact that we haven't recruited decent QB's since Matt Moore and Drew Olsen.  Who's fault?  Coaching.  The other QB we did recruit was converted into a WR.  But why hasn't he developed into AT LEAST a back-up QB?  Coaching.  Six points in the first half and ZERO in the 2nd.  Who's fault?  COACHING!!

Guerrero, the writing is on the wall and is clear as day.  We need a new head coach.  One that can develop players to exceed their potentials.  One that can make quick, in-game adjustments.  One that can actually dominate against an inferior team.  One that has an offensive scheme that makes sense.

Enough with the KD experiment.  I am just so freakin tired of this coach!!

by hspigskinfan on Oct 6, 2007 9:37 PM PDT reply actions

Dont worry, Dorrell said it himself
"The defense played lights out," Dorrell said. "The offense made too many mistakes."

His bottom-line assessment included the silver lining: the Bruins' 3-0 record in the Pacific 10 Conference.

"We're in pretty good shape in conference," Dorrell said.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA.  The AUDACITY of him to even open his mouth after this.

I told everyone to take the points.

I woke up this morning and he's still our coach?  C'mon already....

Verbal Commits
Now what? We have all of these commits on verbals? What now? we have the #5 rated QB in the country on verbal. What now? Krissman won't want to be a part of this. The only way we hang onto out recruits is to dump this clown and get someone that can get it done. Karl Dorrell's only ally right now is Stanford--- they will deflect some of this. What a timely distraction for this joker.

by DallasBruin on Oct 6, 2007 9:40 PM PDT reply actions

On the bright side, any QB prospect...
...can now see that he'd get a chance to start right away.

by Chandler on Oct 6, 2007 10:28 PM PDT up reply actions

i'm not living .. i'm dying on the south side
I can't say I am surprised that we lost, given that we have demonstrated, repeatedly, that we can lose to anyone throughout the Dorrell era. But while I am not surprised we lost, given our recent history, I really did not see how we could lose this game. Notre Dame is really bad this year, and I thought even a mediocrity like KD could see that our loss to Utah was proof taht we could lose to a pathetic, winless team with absolutely no run defense and no offense.  It's going to be a rough train ride on Monday-South Side of Chicago is HUGE Domer territory.

And While I am at it...
What the FUCK... How does a school like UCLA actually have a "walk on freshman redshit" on its roster? we cannot recruit anyone? I'm not baching Bethel-thompson... but please.... And if we only have one guy left (b/c KD doesnt want to use the redshirt on another QB???) why isnt Bethel taking more snaos in practice???

by DallasBruin on Oct 6, 2007 9:42 PM PDT reply actions

KD has actually said this bit of garbage:
I am proud of our walk-on program.

The only reason you have walk-ons is because you cannot freakin' recruit.  Why the hell is this something to be proud of?

by bluegold on Oct 6, 2007 9:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Don't get me wrong
I think that the opportunity is great- but you are right... it comes down to recruiting... I'll support our starting QB-- as a walk on, he'll probably work harder than anyone else... but I cannot believe that it has come down to this

by DallasBruin on Oct 6, 2007 9:47 PM PDT up reply actions

UCLA v. ND
I was at the game tonight.
Great crowd, great atmosphere.
Bruins win easily if SPJ isn't injured.
The kid is a walk-on and played as a walk-on.
KD is going to be tough to remove. ND is still a favorite whipping boy due to the TY Willingham firing.
At least the trOJans went down tonight.
Looking forward to the opinions of Plasche, & Simers tomorrow.
Keep your heads up boyz. It's a silly season & one of the reasons to love the college game.
ND is really pathetic.
Wow!

by jim masterson on Oct 6, 2007 9:54 PM PDT reply actions

Playcalling lost the game
NINE negative plays because they decided to amket the walk-on QB pass-----5 sacks, 4 interceptions!

Had you simply handed the ball off every play, punted and pinned them deep, we would have won the game 6-3 or 9-3.

The offensive playcalling and the turnovers they led to directly resulted in 17 points for ND...which was the reason we lost.

by sdbruin on Oct 6, 2007 10:04 PM PDT reply actions

Im a big a crank as anyone but
please dont call out our players.  they leave it out there on the field only to have our coaches poorly scheme poorly plan poorly prepare for games.

BD has been a warrior, you cant pick and choose which players to like and which to hate.

by jonjon602 on Oct 6, 2007 10:12 PM PDT reply actions

They didn't leave it out there against Utah.
They quit.

And talking trash against ND before the game? No class. I think the players deserve a certain amount of calling out.

by Chandler on Oct 6, 2007 10:27 PM PDT up reply actions

BD deserved to be called out
for sounding like a total moron leading up to this game.

by Nestor on Oct 7, 2007 9:08 AM PDT up reply actions

Pre-game trash talk, plus that face mask...
...that's been much photographed. I mean, with BOTH HANDS? Real class. Great for the reputation of our program. He's a class-less, dirty player. Ought to be playing across town.

by Chandler on Oct 7, 2007 9:42 AM PDT up reply actions

Wow
Fire KD on the way to the locker room.

I feel for you guys. I know what embarrassment is.

by straightbangin on Oct 6, 2007 10:46 PM PDT reply actions

Dorrell needs to Go
The play calling STUNK, the o-line sucked, the players talked a lot trash before the game. If you ask me, it all comes back to Dorrell.

by OutOThsWrld on Oct 6, 2007 10:47 PM PDT reply actions

Howland benches players who talk trash.
But then, howland is a coach. I'm not sure what Dorrell is.

by Chandler on Oct 6, 2007 10:58 PM PDT up reply actions

I blame the apologists
I hope you fuckers are happy. This is what you want? Is THIS what you signed up for when you decided to bend over for KD no matter what bullshit he trots out on the field every Saturday? Just like the Lavin supporters now either quietly bask in Howland's greatness or straight up lie and claim they always wanted a coaching change, the fucking KD apologists should not be allowed to do the same and enjoy UCLA football under a new and competent head coach.

There are no more excuses. I don't give a fuck if he remembered your fucking birthday or if your son is a walkon to the fucking team, because right now, that's NOT something to be proud of.

I actually didn't mind BT passing...
... when it was the simple quick hitches and dump-offs.  Thsoe worked fine for the kid, and elt himg et in a bit of a rhythm in the 2nd quarter.

But what was up with the first down, go for 20-yard passes in the second half???

I do NOT get this.

BO is our "best" QB, and you have to pull teeth for Dorrell and Norvell to call down-the-field plays.

BT is our 4th most-experienced QB in this 'system,' and instead of calling easy, 5-12-yard pass plays, we have him start drives trying to swing haymakers.

Isn't that like calling a rookie out of the minors, sending him up against Curt Schilling, and telling him he needs to hit to the fences at every at-bat?

Did the coaching staff choose to coddle BO the past few weeks at the expense of getting BT needed practice time?

Cowan was hurt early in the season.  BO was already hurt at Utah.

How could a MB-T contingency plan not already be in place, maybe highlighted in red or something on CTS' handy-dandy crotch-card?  And if this was it, WTF were they thinking???

This game actually made me glad my home computer is crashing like a Ferrari with a drunk driver on an icy mountain road (I'm typing from the office this gloomy Sudnay morning).

"What next?" I ask you, Nation.

WHAT NEXT???

WHY NOT US? WHY NOT NOW?

I went to the game...
I happened to be in CA for a vacation and my friend offered me free tickets to this game. It's the first one I have been to in many years.

And WOW. You know, I started watching UCLA CFB the year Toledo got fired. But even in those dark years, his teams were not this bad. A Toledo-coached team would've wiped the floor with a crappy squad like ND 2007.

The Bruins were unfocused, lazy, soft, and undisciplined. "Southpaw Jesus" is more like Southpaw Ron Hubbard. He is slow to throw, slow to make decisions, telegraphs like crazy, and crumbles under pressure. This might be the most dissapointing part of an extremely extremely dissapointing season. The offense is just terrible, just terrible, across the board.

The defense stepped up overall (notwithstanding getting pushed around the line, Clausen could've taken a nap back there), not that its hard to with that ND squad, but you can only do so much when your offense keeps giving it up and letting them get to the 1 (happened twice from what I remember, good for 10 ND points).

This team is bad, folks. Bad bad bad bad bad. I don't see how anyone could go to a UCLA football game and think its on the right track. Hell I don't see how anyone could go to a UCLA game at all with the garbage KD and friends are putting out there on the field.

Wait till we play Oregon, Cal, and yes USC. I am predicting some re-runs of 55-10 type scores. It was that bad. Throw in Arizona State and we are looking at another 6 win season.

by njbruin on Oct 7, 2007 10:04 AM PDT reply actions

oops
Ahh yea I should've clarified: BO went down injured (not surprised there, so super dissapointing this guy) and Mac Bethel Thompson couldn't do a whole lot.

I hope KD gets fired this offseason. Another 6-7 win season is not acceptable. We were supposed to go to the Pac-10 championship, you know??

by njbruin on Oct 7, 2007 10:07 AM PDT up reply actions

6-7?!!!
Exactly who do you think we can beat?! Playing like this? We are staring down at a 4-8 hole, undoubtedly.
