Two words sum up Dorrell's program

"Bowl eligible."  These two words reek -- they reek of underachievement, they reek of coaching incompetence, they reek of glaring mediocrity.

Other programs are fighting for the national title, they are fighting for a BCS bowl, they are fighting for a conference title.  UCLA is fighting for...to be freakin' "bowl eligible."  I mean it, these two words are insulting to respectable Bruin fans everywhere, and yet this is the most that KD could deliver to our beloved university.  UCLA football should never, never be about merely being "bowl eligible."

We all had such high hopes at the beginning of September.  We thought everything was in place for a superior football season.  Returning seniors, favorable scheduling, blah, blah...  But one person was at least smart enough to know a crucial component was still missing:  KD himself, and the missing piece was first-rate coaching.  He himself knew he was not up to the taske of delivering anything of significance inspite of the numerous advantages in place this season.  And this is the only time I will ever use the word "smart" in connection with KD.

While Bruin football fans everywhere were enumerating various lofty goals for the 2007 team, KD himself knew he did not have the capability to deliver.  When pressed and pressed for his own expectations for this season, all he would project was that UCLA would MAKE A MOVE.  Wow!  That was brimming with confidence.  And now that KD has made the move, we are at the doorstep of being "bowl eligible."  Yippee!!  What an absolute joke for the UCLA football program.

And yet, against this 'bowl eligible" backdrop, there are still UCLA fans who want to retain this clueless coach-pretender?  You've got to be kidding?  These people and this sentiment is as anti-UCLA excellence as can be.  It lends credence to the suspicion that these KD "supporters" are not Bruins, but people from enemy camps who wish UCLA to be continually mired in mediocrity.

Bowl eligible.  What a nasty, demeaning state of being for our football program.  And we still have yet to attain it.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

It's pretty clear
that no amount of shame or failure will be enough for these apologists to suck it up and admit they were wrong about KD. As bad as "bowl eligible" might sound to you, I trolled over to the BRO free football forum and was disgusted to see a thread title like "We are building a lot of character this year". We don't play to win. We don't play to stay competitive either. We play to build character. That poster is a Loser. Capital L.

He's also an Idiot
Among the "facts" he has used to support his arguments:

-"The recruits are coming to UCLA because of the coaching."
-"Many of the coaches in this country consider Dorrell to be a good coach."
-"UCLA has had a very weak offense."
-"Tehir dfense has been mediocre to good at times."
-"Fact the team players respect Dorrell and want to play for him."

And I admit
I was one of those prior to the start of the season who said let's see what happens this year.  I'll give him one more chance.  All it took was the UTAH loss, and I was done with KD.  I can't believe that there are still people out there who support him as a coach.  And now talk of becoming bowl eligible makes me want to vomit.

I was listening to ESPN this morning with Torico and Herbstriet.  They were talking about BCS bowls, and of course USC was mentioned as having a shot.  It made me sick again that we're not even relevant.

Utah loss
That's all it should have taken. I can understand people giving Dorrell a second chance at the beginning of the season (note: I didn't say I agree with it, just that I understood the rationale). And it sounds like BN did as well, hence the "Show Me Season" moniker. Anyone who defended Dorrell after Utah either is delusional or has a financial interest in Dorrell's continued abomination of a reign.

KD and Utah loss
I stated then, and will state it again, DG should have fired him in the locker room at Utah after the game. Not the next Monday or later, but there and then. Just consider how far along the program would be now in terms of repair, and on a positive bent. We are wasting time DG. End it now!!

It's the Notre Dame game
that tipped the scale for me.  I don't suppose he even believes in his team anymore.  The sad thing is USC awaits us.  The game will serve as the occasion for them to utterly take out their frustrations on us.  It will be like a killing field, period.

Bowl eligibility
is a forgone conclusion amongst the elite programs.

Making noteworthy college football's version of the N.I.T. underscores the fact that we are not an elite program.

Not participating in a crappy bowl this year only makes DGs job easier on December 3rd: he doesn't have to worry about finding an interim coach!

hate to bring up ND memories
but EDSBS brings up this little fact that does not usually describe a well coached football team.
Our weekly to-do list is up at the Sporting News for your perusal. In writing this, we were reminded that UCLA turned over the ball against Notre Dame nine times. That both coaches are still breathing after such a fiasco is an affront to ancient samurai everywhere, who would have happily spilled their chitlins with a katana rather than face life after such shame.

The only reason I am hoping for a bowl game
is if by some chance we can get in a new coach before the bowl game, he will be able to run the practices and coach the game.

But other than that, I don't care.

How does that work?
A new HC using KD's old staff for the bowl game?  He would not have time to assembly his own staff, nor teach the players his own plays.

Good point
I know sometimes coaches take jobs before their bowl game and get let go, was thinnking maybe they could come in? But even so, i think the extra practice always helps, even if its not with the new coach.

It's more of a chance
to give the players a very basic playbooj, but most of all for the coach to get to know his players on the field and personally. Look around and you'll see things about Brian Kelly coaching Cincinnati last season in the bowl game and how much he says it helped him get going this season.

Assuming we're "bowl eligible"
the first question has to be "Do we want to win the bowl game."  The next question is "Do we have a better chance of winning with CTS or with anyone else?"  In my view, having CTS on the sidelines almost guarantees a loss.  Hence, replace him before the bowl game (i.e., today) would increase our chances.

CTS is like a life jacket made out of lead.
