New Coaches Poll, T-1 UCLA

North Carolina may have more first place votes (14) but apparently that wasn't enough to outright beat us as we gained some ground on them yet again in the coaches poll.

Star-divide

ESPN/USA Today Poll
 1. North Carolina (14) 2-0 744
 1. UCLA (10) 3-0 744
 3. Memphis (6) 4-0 718
 4. Kansas (1) 3-0 680
 5. Georgetown 2-0 636
 6. Louisville 2-0 612
 7. Tennessee 3-0 603
 8. Indiana 2-0 520
 9. Washington State 3-0 517

  1. Duke 2-0 422
  2. Oregon 4-0 417
Also, plenty of PAC-10 teams getting some votes.

Others Receiving Votes
Stanford 33
Washington 20
USC 9
California 3

So, it looks like tonight we will be watching #1 UCLA take on Maryland, at least according to ESPN.

CBE tourney ranks
A Look at the teams that UCLA could find itself playing over the next 2 days:

Tonight's opponent, Maryland is a part of "others receiving votes", with 2 votes in this week's poll.

Possible opponents for tomorrow night would be either Michigan State, which moved up 1 spot this week to #11, and Missouri, which recieved 1 vote this week.

It's a good tourney
I was trying to find a cheap plane ticket to go to Kansas City, but it didn't pan out. Does anyone know what tournament we'll play in next season? Maui has Oregon from the Pac 10 so that's out and we won't play the CBE again. I was thinking maybe that Las Vegas tournament that has UNC and Louisville this year, but the TV coverage of the tourney isn't great. The NIT Tip-Off is an option but we were just there 2 seasons ago. My guess would be the 2K Sports Coaches vs Cancer.

have not heard anything of next year's tourney
if any, though the 2K would make sense. And this is not the week to be looking for a cheap plane ticket, anywhere. I had even thought about catching a train to KC for the games, but thought better after seeing the price tag.

Yeah
I never had much hope of finding a cheap plane ticket. I looked at the train option too, but decided against it. I figured for as much as a roundtrip ticket to Kansas City, I could get a roundtrip ticket for one of our Pac 10 trips and a trip to Phoenix in March for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 should we get there.

true
It is a little easier for me, being on the east coast. Still, I recall a train costing several hundred dollars for this week. Even a round trip on Greyhound came to nearly $300/RT from Virginia. I felt it better to put that money toward more useful things, like going to a UCLA game/games while in California for X-mas (taking my dad to our game @ Haas Pavilion, and keeping my mind open to an LA trip during UW/WSU weekend).

Haha...absolutely correct
sounds like you made the right choice.

For anyone out there curious as to possible NCAA tournament locations, here is our most likely scenario.

1st/2nd Round:
Honda Center/ Anaheim, CA
Thursday, March 20/ Saturday, March 22

Sweet 16/Elite 8:
US Airways Center/ Phoenix, AZ
Thursday, March 27/ Saturday, March 29

Final Four/ Nat'l Title Game:
Alamodome/ San Antonio, TX
Saturday, April 5/ Monday, April 7

We will play at Honda Center as long as we get a top 4 seed due to the pod system put in to place a few years ago. The Regional site is a bit more iffy, but I'm extremely optimistic about this season so I'm going to work under an assumption (or hope) that we get to stay out west for the regional.

This is just for anyone out there who may want to travel and see our Bruins hopefully bring home #12. The entire list of sub-regional and regional site for this year and the next few can be found here

ha ha ha ha ha. that is incredibly generous.

UCLA is...
...better then North Carolina. We're dominating without three key players and are off to a much better start then last year numbers wise. Perhaps the beatdown we're gonna give to Maryland and Michigan St. will wake the voters up.
