Petersen in Play...Maybe

I don't know how to do block quotes and I don't have time this morning to figure it out.  Here is a link to an AP story running at ESPN regarding Chris Petersen's interest in leaving BSU for another head coaching position. Boise St.'s Petersen wants to stay, but keeping options open

Here's the key graphs from the story (and if someone can clean this up with block quotes I check out the editing so next time I can do it myself):

On Monday, Petersen, said he had not been contacted about any opening. He reaffirmed his commitment to Boise State, but left the door ajar when asked if he would consider other opportunities.

"It just would probably depend on the situation," he said. "And the only reason I say that is you never say 'never.' Is there a school out there that I'm kind of going ... 'if they called?' No, there's not.

Looks like Petersen is using the classic, "Make me an offer I can't refuse" strategy.  The article mentions Georgia Tech, Nebraska and Baylor as possible suitors for Pertersen.  No mention of the Bruins...yet.  That speculation probably will not get started in the MSM until Monday.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Fixed the block quotes for you.
Thanks for the find.

Thanks!
I looked at your edits. The block quote looks pretty striaght forward. Hopefully I will remember how to do it for future posts.

Speaking as one of the geezers around here, learning this computer stuff is still a challenge.  I come from the era when there were no personal computers. Imagine, writing term papers at UCLA without the benefit of a word processor.  It used to take me long to type up my papers than it did to write them.

Why Not Us?
I would still prefer Paul Johnson and the proven track record. But I would love to have Petersen for a coach.

The Idaho Statesman also
has an article on this subject.  It is a little more detailed, and it does mention UCLA and the F-word ("FIRED!").
Petersen's name already has surfaced in the rumor mill at Texas A&M (hired Mike Sherman) and Nebraska (interviewing candidates). It likely will come up at Washington State (Bill Doba resigned Monday) and UCLA (may fire Karl Dorrell).

Jobs also are open at Michigan, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Baylor, Duke and Mississippi - with more turnover likely to come.

Petersen said he has not been contacted about any job opportunities. However, he might listen if a school wants to talk.

Everyone will also like these comments, particularly the use of the word "nuisance."  He's so coy.

Boise State coach Chris Petersen does not see opportunity in the coaching upheaval that played out Monday across college football.
"There's just not a situation out there where I'm going, 'Oh yeah, if that comes up '," Petersen said. "It's just way more of a nuisance to me."

A nuisance because Petersen knows eventually his phone will ring and a suitor will be on the other end of the call.

"I pretty much hope it doesn't," he said.

The artcile also details Peterson's contract with BSU, bonuses etc.  It's worth a looksie.

Great find.
I particularly liked this quote by Petersen:
"If there's a better job out there for somebody's family or situation, that's my job to help them get those," Petersen said. "Everybody has to kill their own snakes in life, and those guys know that they've got my full support."

Of course, Toast would probably want to make sure we were simply in a position not tog et bit by the snake, rather than out and out kill it, but you get the idea.

Just Got Back From Boise
Happened to go up there for business and on the same flight with some Boosters who were returning from the Hawaii game.  They expect to hold on to him for a couple more years.  Counting on a salary bump and some stadium improvements to do the trick.  But who knows . . .
