the attitude of a true UCLA coach...

This quote shows why John Wooden is the gold standard of coaching, and the attitude that this story embodies applies to all sports, including football. KD does not any may never embody this attitude, and that is the simplest reason to fire him regardless of what he does this weekend:

Star-divide

Bill Walton: "Coach Wooden in the four years I played for him never called a timeout. He always felt that timeouts were an admission of defeat, and would only allow the other team to regroup."

Now thats the true attitude of a UCLA coach, regardless of sport. I've never seen KD show that level of confidence in himself or his team, and I've never seen him as passionate about winning. Compare him to the attitude Wooden brought to winning, and there's no reason for him to stay.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

While I Would Never Question Coach
if he had called a timeout against Notre Dame in the last 2 1/2 minutes of the game when ND outscored the Bruins 11-0, the 88 game win streak would most likley not have ended in South Bend.

Did so..
I think Bill may have been a little mistaken -- or speaking philosophically -- on this point; I recall Wooden calling a lot of time-outs. One comes to mind in the closing minutes of the '75 game against L'ville to set up Richard Washington's shot.

I also remember one at Harmon Gym
on the Wicks, Rowe Patterson team.  I think Bill may bave been speaking in a more metaphysical sense.

Wooden's philosophy was
to not be the FIRST one to call a TO.  Let the other team blink first.
