Craig James Halftime Comment

This may have been mentioned during the game thread - but not sure since I didn't follow during the game.

Craig James mentioned that there was a substantial amount of posturing going on right now behind the scenes with agents, coaches, and ADs for soon to be vacant head coaching positions.  Made it sound like their was already a significant amount of lobbying going on for top coaches that have a chance to move to bigger programs or better situations - which would make sense.

He specifically made the comment in regards to Osborne needing to get involved and not being left in the cold by making his decision too late in the season on Callahan.  Meaning - delay your decision on firing your head coach and all the top talent will be spoken for by the time you make your decision.

Upon hearing this - my immediate thought was that hopefully DG is already in the "behind the scenes" mix speaking to agents of prospective candidates or favorites to take over for KD.  Then after thinking about it some more, I got the sinking feeling that DG hasn't made his mind up yet with his  "I will be very interested to see how we finish the season. And you can use that" comment barely coming this week.

Is this just a normal "don't give too much info to the public what your actually doing ploy" or is he truly thinking that DW is his security blanket if he decides to axe KD - which is now (at least known world wide and not just here on BN or DD) the obvious way to go.

I'm going to give him credit and say he is behind the scenes - what do you think?

On a side note - coacheshotseat.com is gonna have a hell of a time deciding who gets #1 between Charlie, Doofus, and Callahan!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

I will give DG credit when he earns it
So far, he agreed to let Coach Howland have his dream job, and he said so-long to Adams.  Both showed no real acumen as an athletic administrator.  How tough it is it to say "yes" when Coach Howland calls and says he wants to coach your team.

And I don't care how many excuses he tucks in his saddlebags, he is the guy who hired CTS.  Nobody else hired him.  DG hired him.  At this moment, I would like to see a dual firing.  The only way DG can rehabilitate himself in my mind is if he fires CTS NOW.  Not at the end of the season.

There comes a point at which an AD has to say something to the fans.  (Or as in the case of Nebraska, the president said something to the AD and the fans.)  This season is toast.  There is nothing left this year.  The only upside for the players is that they can maybe avoid getting hurt.  So, DG, what is the point of retaining CTS?  What missing fact do you need to know?

He may have been AD when KD was gired
but he didn't hire KD. I know this as fact. He didn't even want Riley originally. Hr wanted an expanded search, however the administration felt it was unecessary and when Field and Carnesdale told the administration KD was the guy, Guerrero was essentially ignored. I've heard this from a number of credible people and it is fact. If you chose to ignore it then fine, but you're ignoring the truth.

Fox
I like you a lot. But at this point I have written enough posts explaining how it wasn't DG who hired KD. He signed off on the KD hire at the time. But it wasn't really him who pushed for that decision. And I have written about this topic enough times already.

DG knows what to do. And we will put pressure on him if he doesn't act on December 3rd. But until then lets not advance BS lines such as how it was DG who hired KD.

So please do not advance nonsense. Thanks.

I'm a masochist
This morning I listened to the clip on which CTS said he was underpaid.  Several times in that clip CTS alluded to the fact that he was hired by DG.  I wasn't there.  Maybe you guys (Nestor and Rye) have inside info that I don't have.  But what I heard from CTS own lips was that DG hired him.  (I'll come back to this.)  And if you look at the dates, DG was hired before CTS was hired.

But upon further review, I think I am going to have to give further thought to my position.  The "conclusive proof" that DG hired CTS is the words coming from CTS himself.  It is therefore more probably that not that CTS meant something other than what he actually said.

N, I know what you've written on this.  But let me challenge you just a bit.  I assume you weren't present when the decisions were made, so how good is your info?  I know you are satisfied that what you've argued 100% true, But are you 110% convinced?

by Fox 71 on Nov 3, 2007 6:52 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't remember
where N's information came from, but I heard it from 2 people who were working in the Morgan Center and the time and one other who was present in the room during negotiations and interviews.

You know, Rye, that's pretty good info
OK, I'll give DG the fact that his hands were tied.

Seems to me that we should be sending the e-mails, etc., to people up the line from DG.

I've talked to DG
multiple times. The guy wants a football program that will compete for not only Pac 10 titles, but national titles. I walked by him during a game one time and he wasnt schmoozing donors but intently watching the game and jumping up and down and yelling at the refs from his box. The guy is as passionate about our football program as any of us here.

He wants a top flight program, but needs support from the adminstration to get it done. He needs money to bring in the coach he wants. We almost didn't get Howland because they weren't willing to pay him (even at the pay cut Howland was willing to take). DG begged and pleaded and got the money necessary to bring Howland in so when it came to football, even when he begged and pleaded they weren;t going to help him out.

Hopefully now, 5 years after saying no to DG, they will say yes and let him get a coach UCLA's players, student, alumni and fans deserve. We've seen what an investment in a program does in the long run with Howland so maybe the administration will get their heads out of their asses and commit to a real football program where mediocrity is not acceptable.

I'm pretty inclined
to believe this version of the events, mostly because it sounds so plausible. Not that I know anything personally of DG, but it certainly sounds like something our administration would do.

Rye - think in terms of law school
That was a persuasive argument, and I have been persuaded that I was, let us say "hasty" in calling for the summary execution of DG.

Thanks
now if only the administration can be persuaded to help us develop a REAL fotball program

Medical Alert
Rectal/craneal inversion is curable, we have the technology to make it happen. You just have to know you have it to ask for the cure.

Is the Admin ready to do that in KD's case??

Easy Fox
Trust me: NO ONE is as acidic as the people at my address WIC to "CTS"... but DG is a quality AD -- he's late, yes.  Starving us for Salvation, yes. Working within an extremely tight-assed bureaucracy half committed to winning and half afraid of forfeiting academics for football... YES.

We'll get what we need.  Let's not torch DG's curtains just yet.

Paul Johnson just moved into my top 3 with that win over Wiess and the No Dice Irish.  Rybreadaz! Where's that Spreadsheet?  DG needs our help!

One thing...
This is pretty clearly the worst Notre Dame team ever, so beating them shouldn't be all that difficult.

for dumbest post ever, regarding anything - from the romper room. For that persons sake, I can only hope it is a joke taken a little too far.

Today, The Issue Is Not Who Hired CTS or Why
The issue is why CTS has not been fired. And, that is all on CAD.

How and why CTS got here is history. There's no reason to debate it.

The focus should be on today.

DG may not have hired him, but he retained him.

He had all of last year, save one interception -- followed by the nut bowl -- to figure this out. And, he didn't.

This year is on CAD, not some chancellor who is long gone.

Someone needs to grow a pair
It couldn't be more obvious that DUH-rell is a Bozo with no clue who is getting players hurt.  The only responsible thing to do is to fire him NOW.  Screw office politics and trying to analyze them.  Everybody keeps saying what a great guy Guerrero is - what's so great about watching our football program go down the toilet because of an obviously incompetent DOOFUS at head coach and doing nothing about it?

Like Class of 66 said, who cares who hired the train wreck - the fact is that he's here, ruining the football program and players' careers, and some people are fiddling while it burns.  I wouldn't call the people doing the fiddling "good guys."  I would call them "negligent, irresponsible bureaucrats more interested in covering their own asses than in what's good for the athletic program, the university, or the players."

by Tommy Bruin on Nov 4, 2007 12:41 AM PDT reply actions

Another persuasive argument
Rye explained cogently that the hiring of CTS was not an error that could be attributed to the CAD.  But Tommy Bruin has pointed out just as cogently that the retention of CTS game after game (if you want to call these abominations "games") is no one's fault other than the CAD's.

I'm willing to give the CAD the benefit of the doubt -- until Monday.  At the bare minimum, we should at least have an explanation of why CTS is being retained.  There may well be a reason that can be articulated, although I doubt it.

The school thinks enough of me to tell me every month or so why it my interests will be advanced if I send them some money.  If the school cares for me that much, then they should explain why my interest as a fan is enhanced by retaining the worst football coach in the history of civilization.  I have been matching the school - I send them the same number of dollars as they send me explanations.

Save Your Time
Stop wasting your valuable BN brainpower on asking for KD's immediate termination.  The fact is, he will never be fired until AFTER the Bruins no longer have a mathematical chance of winning the PAC-10 championship.

The pretty girl won't go to the prom with you
if you don't ask her.  The CAD might not be aware of just how many people want the Great Pretender booted out the door.  Maybe the CAD is waiting for one more person to say CTS needs to be fired today.

by Fox 71 on Nov 4, 2007 1:07 PM PST up reply actions

Patience
The AD is not waiting for anyone to tell him anything.  He is waiting for one more loss to seal the deal.  Despite this, I feel it is very possible that he will give Dorrell some amount of respect by waiting until the end of the season to make the announcement.  Despite his record, he (Coach Dorrell) is still a Bruin and considered part of the family.

Sigh - what's the point?
I was all set to argue, but I'm too tired.  Thanks CTS and DG for making the whole football season totally uninteresting.
