Coaches Hot Seat updated, Dorrell takes a commanding lead.

Coaches Hot Seat is updated for this weekend, and what do you know, KD finally wins something.

Star-divide

CHS ends with this chilling prediction if the school muffs another hiring:

"If they don't get it right this time, then UCLA football will drift off into never-never land and will not be seen or heard from again for a long time to come."

At least
Dorrell is #1 in something.

DG -- Doesn't this make sense for us, too?
From the very same article:

"Bill Byrne faces the very real fact that he might have to pull the plug on Franchione before the end of the season.  How can Franchione and his staff possibly be out recruiting players, when everyone knows that he will not be back for 2008?  It just makes no sense for A&M to leave the impression that there is any chance that Franchione will be back, when everyone knows that he will be gone, and that uncertainty is only hurting the football program in the long-term"

That should answer those who fear we will lose recruits by firing KD, today.

Bruins - read the whole article
There are some really bad coaches out there.  Callahan is setting some never-to-be-broken records in Lincoln.  There are others.  So for CTS to make the very top (or should it be bottom?) of this list shows that someone out there is getting it.  He is, in fact and without doubt, the worst coach in America.

I don't know...
I mean, look at what they say about Charlie Weis! They said before that the team wouldn't even be competitive in Division 1-AA.

This Notre Dame team is playing far far worse than UCLA. Slate had a good article on this - if the offense somehow doubled in productivity, it would go from like 119th in the country (dead last) to like, 116th. They are that bad. The only reason Charlie isn't #1 is because ND would owe him a huuuge amount of money if they fired him.

Of course, Notre Dame did beat UCLA. I don't know. I think Charlie Weis is the worst coach in America. Karl Dorrell is right behind him, though.

UCLA's talent makes KD the worst
I believe that if the two coach/clowns change places, Weis would have a better record and KD would be winless.

Notre Dame
is what UCLA will look like next year if we don't get rid of Dorrell.

Charlie the worst?
I have a hard time believing Weis is the worst coach in America when he is 2-0 against Dorrell teams that have more talent than ND.

by bornagainbruin on Nov 5, 2007 8:06 AM PST up reply actions

Who's worse?
For some reason, the classic Bum Phillips line about Don Shula comes to my mind:  "He can take his'n and beat your'n, then he can take your'n and beat his'n."  Except with CTS its worse.

Here is a brief quiz to determine which of the two coaches deserves the top spot as the worst coach in the country:

If UCLA and Notre Dame had swapped coaches the last two years, would UCLA be 12-10 or would it have a better record?

Wouldn't Weis be 2-0 against CTS no matter which of the two teams he coached?

If you had to choose between CTS and Weis, who would you want as coach of UCLA?

And the ultimate question:  Does Weis worship at the church of the WCO?

Quid erat demonstratem:  CTS has earned the top spot as worst in the country, but Bill Callahan (known as Callasham on the Nebraska blogs) is making a late run.

by Fox 71 on Nov 5, 2007 8:30 AM PST up reply actions

Well...
Of course, this is all subjective, but:
  1. Probably a worse record.
  2. Probably.
  3. Dorrell. Have you watched any ND games besides the one they won? ND would've lost against Cal like 50-10.
  4. No.
Maybe the point is, its a toss-up, I don't know, but Charlie Weis is hideous, and I think a strong case can be made for him not just scraping the bottom of the barrel, but ripping right through the bottom and digging about 50 feet into the ground. It is sad that our coach is in the running, in any case.

Sorry, nj
but I'm not going to be able to sign your release papers from the institution.  You almost had it, but that pesky question 3 did you in.  You're still delusional.  And the only way to fix this is shock therapy.  It's tough love, nj, we're doing it for your own good.  You're going to have to watch the UCLA ND game two more times, and you're going to have to listen to a CTS press conference.  Sure, it's inhuman, but it's really for your own good.

A lot of people have made complete recoveries from WCOism.  I saw it on House just the other night.  Take your meds and we'll start again first thing in the morning.

I put Dorrell at number 2
you gotta have Callahan at number 1. He is at Nebraska, first of all, which has a much higher standard for football then we do, and secondly, he just got 70+ points hung on his team.

He's gotta be number 1.

And what do Callahan and KD have in common: The WCO.

"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"

by silverlakebruin on Nov 6, 2007 9:46 AM PST reply actions

Tough choice
I checked - Callahan was 11-5 in 02 and then 4-12 in 03 with the Raiders.  Then he has done what he has done at New Braska - 5-6, 8-4, 9-5 and 4-6 this year.  His total coaching W-L record is a little worse than CTS's.  His team is apparently getting blown out in losses.  I think we qualify here as well

Would I trade CTS for Callahan?  I think CTS is the worst coach possible for our program, so I have to say yes, I would make the trade.  But then I would get rid of Callahan immediately.

by Fox 71 on Nov 6, 2007 12:47 PM PST up reply actions

They are both awful
I wouldn't make the trade.  He's setting records at Nebraska just as fast as ol' Karl is setting them at UCLA.

by Barnes2JJ on Nov 6, 2007 12:50 PM PST up reply actions

I make the trade simply to be consistent
But I agree that Callahan is at least CTS's equal in ineptitude.

I've got the perfect bowl game - The Bruins vs. the Cornhuskers.  The possbilities are mind-boggling.  We could have the guys switch jerseys and see if we could tell them apart.  We could have CTS call both the offenses and the defenses at the same time.  And on and on.

by Fox 71 on Nov 6, 2007 6:54 PM PST up reply actions

I like Callahan
But only because he destroyed the Raiders.
