Dear Mr. Guerrero,
I want to thank you for your efforts to keep the coaching search private. There is so much speculation in the fan base that it is almost sickening to read the daily negative posts about the people thought to be under consideration. I have been a Bruins fan since I was born. I come from a long line of Bruins fans and have had the unique experience of growing up in the south as one. I spent some long years in Alabama as a youth before I finally moved back to my California home. I am now preparing to apply to law school there in hopes of becoming a Bruin in 2009. It was hard being a Bruin fan in SEC country. No one east of the Mississippi river respects PAC-10 sports, despite the fact that we hold the most National Championships in the country. I know that you are doing all you can to find the best head coach you are allowed to find, I also know that there are those in academia that do not care about football and would get rid of it if they had the chance. It is of those that I plead with you to ignore. I know you have restrictions, many in your position do, but please do all you can to get past those restrictions and hire a coach that will uphold the high standards of UCLA while maintaining a successful program. By successes, I mean PAC-10 championships. I agree with a statement you made about how if we win those championships, we will be national contenders. I pray that you will continue to search for a coach that will bring that to us, one that has proven he can do that already. Please feel no rush to get this done as these things take time, but do feel the pressure to make the right choice as the fans are restless for glory. It has been a long decade for us, and when we beat SC last year it gave us a glimmer of hope that was then all but destroyed this year. I know you will do the right thing, you always have. I just hope that the restrictions you are under do not force you to "settle," that would be tragic.
Keep up the good work,
