Bring On The Pac: Postgame Thread

The Bruins turn in a consistent effort for 40 minutes en route to a 76-48 laugher over UC Davis. The defense suffocated UCD into an uncountable amount of turnovers in the first half, and they had more than twice the amount of shot attempts as their overmatched opponent. The defensive intensity carried over into the second half, which hasn't always been the case in games like these against less heralded opponents, but it appeared the Bruins were ready to send a message.

The 21 turnovers forced in this game are more impressive given the Princeton style offense that UCD runs based on precise passing and execution.

With the Pac 10 schedule upon us, we are going to need to continue to have balanced contributions like we had tonight with 4 starters in double figures and 9 points for Westbrook. Also important is to avoid defensive lulls like we had in the first half of the Texas game. I hope Roll starts getting comfortable here because he seemed to be forcing the action tonight, resulting in some bad possessions.

Speaking of forcing the action, this time in a good way, I bring you Josh Shipp:

I can't wait to see fireworks like this on the football field thanks to Coach Rick Neuheisal. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Rick Neuheisal programming in this Postgame Thread.

Post game/Nueheisel Thoughts
Mr. BB and I went to the game today, as our tradition will now be to take in a game while we are out for Christmas.  While we had more fun last year against Washington, it did our hearts good to be back home in Westwood.  We are looking forward to Pac-10 play.

As for Coach Nueheisel, I will admit that he was not my first choice, but I do think that no other candidate would put his heart and soul into this job more than he will.  For the first time in a long time, I am optomistic about UCLA football.  I am now seriously considering changing my summer vacation plans to come out for Coach Nueheisel's first game.

It may not fully turn around next year, but I do believe the groundwork has been laid.  Let's remember, Coach Howland didn't make the tournament his first season, but look what he has done since then.

Under KD
year 5=year 1.  No progress. Same old, same old.

I am confident that by year 5 RN will have the program humming like a finely-tuned football engine.

A BN Get Together for a Game
BB,

In another thread, a bunch of us are thinking about traveling to see an RN game.

I can't coordinate a 2 person lunch, but others have volunteered.

So far, it's a lot of geezers and some of you vibrant young people.

I think it would be cool to meet, in person, and celebrate this new beginning.

PS. As always, let me know if you get stuck in Houston on the way home.

That would be incredible
It's kind of dependent on Mr. BB's schedule and if his sister renews her season tickets.  I have to admit that this made going back to Birmingham even harder.  This is the best I have felt about football in a long time.

I also forgot to mention that they announced Neuheisel's hire during a timeout, and the crowd cheered loudly.

Welcome home Coach Nueheisel.

That dunk by Josh
was NASTY.

Loved our defensive effort tonight. But next week we are going to be in battles.

Thanks for holding the fort down T.

Man what a great Saturday night.

See you all either tomorrow night or Monday am getting ready for the presser of our new football coach.

GO BRUINS.

The Dunk
I missed the Top 10 on Sports Center, but if it wasn't on there, it should have been.

Stanback
Though he's had a good play or two, Chace really hasn't done much to impress me as a player who will earn time in Howland's rotation.  I thought that about Westbrook last year, and this year he's a stud, so I hope I can make the same comment about Stanback next year.

What's with the lack of benball game commentary?
My excuse = being at my stepsister's wedding; was hoping to read a bit more about that thriller vs. UC Davis ;-)

Aside from the threat of being murdered by the mother of the bride, and therefore being unable to use our tickets for next Saturday @ Cal, being able to get the customary detail from the game thread was one thing keeping my dad and myself from spending the afternoon at a bar watching the game, rather than the concurrently scheduled wedding. (sarcasm, of course)

ND basketball rivalry revival?
I was talking to a friend (and Irish fan) who told me that he heard that plans are in the works to revive the annual match up between UCLA and Notre Dame. I was wondering if anyone else has heard this. I believe he said that ND had cleared Michigan from their schedule to make room for UCLA.

I hope it is true; when I was the kid, that was always my favorite game to attend.

dohn had it on his blog a couple days ago
that a bball home and home was in discussion, but not yet officially set up. certainly would be a nice revival of the old rivalry.

That's why I couldn't find it...
I never go to Dohn's blog. Thanks for the info.
