L.A. Times Poll. Which Rules - UCLA Basketball or SUC Football

The Fishwrap is running a poll today, which I brought over here for some opinions.  Right now, it's running 72% to 28% in favor of UCLA.  I wonder what kind of unbiased results we'll get here. Vote here and then go over to the fishwrap website and vote there.

Star-divide

Of course, the poll as it appears in the fishwrap is biased toward SC listing it first, but even on the heels of all of SC's recent "success" Bruins basketball is the acknowledged standard in L.A. Petey's program is on the edge of extinction given the dubious moral quality of his players and his program, while BB takes the high road and recruits players of quality and is a quality person himself.  It will be interesting to see if the Bruins maintain their comfortable margin over at the fishwrap.  I would encourage everybody to go over there and vote themselves.

In my opinion, there greatness of UCLA basketball is entering its third era.  Of course, we have the never to be matched record of Coach Wooden.  10 championships in 12 years and seven in a row speaks for itself.  That record is more untouchable to Joe D's 56 game hitting streak or anything in sports.

The '95 championship represents a triumph of one group of great players getting together and winning a championship despite their coach.

And what we're witnessing now is the dawn of another 20 years of basketball greatness.  It is so very exciting to see this happening again.  I was a wee lad when I listened to the Bruins first championship on my transitor radio.  I will enjoy watching the rest of them on my 50 inch plasma.

Go Bruins!

Poll
Today's L.A. Times poll. Which team has been more dominant in its history, USC football or UCLA basketball?
UCLA basketball. When USC's football team wins seven national championships in a row, then we can talk.
210 votes
USC football. UCLA had one great run, but the Trojans have been dominant across the decades in football.

HUH??!!!
How is this even a poll question? I guess the fishwrap just wants to ignore the 90's in U$C's dominance "across decades". Whatever. What a sorry excuse of a toiletpaper.

Tasser -
Do yourself a favor - find the Jim Healy page and listen to it.  Healy didn't care for the times, and called it the fishwrap.  He would be very proud to see that his name from 20+ years ago is still being used.

At this point
The fish are offended and appalled at having to be wrapped in paper that should only be used to wipe a certain body part.

"dominance across decades?"
I didn't really think this made much sense. USC was dominant in what? the 20's, 60's and 70's, don't know about the 30's and 40's, plus the last 4-5 years (I could be wrong, but I thought those were the decades in which USC football was unquestionably a cut above the rest of the PAC-10, occasional down-years notwithstanding. The way the LAT frames this poll question, they obviously ignore the 80's and 90's not to mention the 50's, when UCLA was at the very least equal to if not superior to USC. As much as I respect USC's football history, they went nearly 25 years (1980-2003) without a title and although they had some good teams and won the PAC-10 and Rose Bowl a few times, they were not a title contender in any one of those years that their history over the previous two decades had convinced them was their birthright. So I don't see how the LAT can proclaim this "fact" as a given.

I agree.
This poll is worded to taint the results. This reminds me of polls done by Fox News.

It is true that Jim Healy calls a newspaper "fishwrap" but he's not the only one.  Jim Rome, for example, uses the term as well.

I also agree with those who agree that the poll was written in an obscure and convoluted way, much like a Fox News poll, to achieve a certain result, which they failed to do.

Anyway, I'm glad that the "general public" recognizes that Bruins basketball is light years ahead of SUC football throughout collegiate sports history.

Good luck to our boys in WV this morning.
