And FYI...
Can we get a petition started to never have Gus Johnson call a UCLA game for the rest of eternity? This year vs West Virginia, last year vs TT, 2002 Sweet 16 vs Mizzou. Have we ever won a game of ours that he's done?

Doesn't look good
Let's hope for a strong second half filled with less bricks and more defense. We've come from behind before, but for some reason the players look a little more frazzled this time. I'm out here in Connecticut on business where they have the game blacked out. I'm only catching the little snippets that are fed to me by CBS.

If I had a vote, he'd be my player of the year. Adam Morrison is a piece of shit. I'm already slow and white. If I were 6'8" and allowed to foul on every single offensive posession without getting called, I'm pretty sure I could get 30 a game, too.

How many folks were SCREAMING for them to foul...

..and were horrified that they weren't trying to stop the clock?

My heart sunk to my knees for a second... and then got shot up to the ceiling like Mentos out of a 2-liter Coke bottle.

I had rightfully concluded believed Ben was a very good, fundamentally sound teacherHe had already proven it to me before that point. I trusted Ben.

With that, though, Coach Howland got my faith.

Down by double digits in the second half? We can win this.

Facing a team with a track meet offense? We can win this.

Playing a team with a 300-lb. center playing out of his mind? WE CAN WIN THIS.

Playing a team with a frontcourt with height and agility at every position? WE CAN WIN THIS, TOO.

Yeah, Florida beat us last year, but we have learned and grown since then. We lost some key elements (Farmar, Hollins, Ced) but we have gained some as well (an improved AA, a dynamic new DC, a healthy LoMa, an emerging JS).

I believe in God and my Church, even when I'm not the best example of either, not by a long shot.

But, UCLA Hoops has a good chunk of my faith, too.

Coach Howland has my faith.

Arron Afflalo has my faith.

All of the Bruin Ballers have my faith.

And Adam Morrison brought just enough water for the new baptism.

I was waiting for a foul

But smart teams foul by going for the ball when it's in the backcourt. If you're going to foul, do it while going for a steal. It reminded me of Illinois-Arizona in 2005. Dee Brown stole the ball from Shakur on a play where everyone was expecting him to foul, but he made an aggressive play for the ball, ended it getting it cleanly, and tossed it ahead for the layup. You just have to agressively go for the ball in that situation. Only foul intentionally when the guy has you beat.

I have read that over and over this year

I was at Farmer's Market with my best friend from high school. I saw we were down by three (I didn't think we were going to get past Gonzaga, so they were proving me right). Hollins cut it to one. After that, I was in shock. I really couldn't believe what had happened. I immediatly called Mr. BB who had an early flight out the next day to come out here for spring break. I told him he wasn't getting to sleep that night. He said, "I don't care."

What a moment.

It was one of those games that defies belief, and it left me smiling for weeks on end. Just spectacular.

Though I grew up in the Bay Area, I was in Montana last year clerking for a Justice on the Montana Supreme Court. After UCLA beat Belmont and Alabama I decided there was only one thing to do, and that was to get to the Sweet 16 at all costs. I had been hearing about Gonzaga all year from my co-workers (Montanans love Gonzaga), and it was the type put-up-or-shut-up game that I couldn't miss. But it wasn't easy getting there.

I somehow missed my early morning flight out of Helena, and had to scramble to get on to another flight. Then there was the long wait in Salt Lake City, before finally arriving in Oakland about 2 hours before the tip of the Bradley game. But it wasn't over--I still had to take the Bus ride to the Bart station at the Colliseum, and then finally, I was in a position to BUY a ticket to the game--Montana was great for fly-fishing, but NCAA Tourney tickets weren't readily available in Montana.

But, with an attitude that there was no way I wasn't getting in, I met a friend, we bought tickets in the upper level, and took it in.

Ups and Downs galore--all I asked for was a chance at the end. And we got it, but not before the DC and-1 that was called off, the Farmar runner which lofted so high I couldn't believe it, and of course, a HUGE pair of free throws from my hero Ryan Hollins. (After he hit those I said, we have a chance!)

I too couldn't believe we weren't fouling at the end, and then was beyond belief again when Batista failed to pass the ball to his wide open point guard, but intstead . . . "And a steal! Farmar, inside, The Freshman up, OH! And they go in Front! Rivio, last chance to Dance! M-Bah-a-Moute! UNBELIEVABLE!"

Unbelievable indeed. I was out of my mind excited, jumping down the rows of the upper level as each second unfolded. It was just shocking, the entire crowd was electric, hands on heads the norm, everyone in disbelief. I floated to the car after the game . . . and listened to Ted Robinson's call of the game over and over as it aired on CBS Radio and Westwood 1. Unforgettable.

I encourage everyone, no matter where you are, to try to get to one of UCLA's Tournament games. I saw UCLA play Duke in Philadelphia in the Sweet 16 a while back, and though a loss, it too was special. But last year's games--those were unbelievable.
