Coach Wooden on NPR

"All Things Considered, March 29, 2007· Andy Hill rode the bench on great UCLA teams coached by the legendary John Wooden a generation ago. Hill never felt Wooden appreciated him or really even knew who he was. But as fate would have it, Hill has developed a deep and powerful friendship with the 96-year-old coach."

Star-divide

We all know how much Coach is loved; it's amazing how he continues to inspire people much later in their lives. Many of us know this story, but it's nice to hear Andy Hill tell it in his own voice. This should be mandatory listening for all Florida fans.

Here is the link to the broadcast:

At the end of the broadcast it says the on Friday the 30th Coach will talk about old school basketball on "Morning Edition". I'll try to find the time...it's a long show. NPR is pretty good about putting their stuff online. If anyone finds a link please post it here.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

I'm very confident that Coach knew
who Andy Hill was, and that Andy Hill could fall out of bed and hit a free throw.  In a tight game, someone on the other team delivered a very hard foul to a Bruin who had to come out of the game.  Coach put Andy Hill in to shoot the free throws.  It may have been his first minutes in the game.  But he swished both.

Andy may have forgotten that, but I remember it vividly.  I thought it was remarkable that I guy could come in with no warm ups or anything and calmly swish two free throws in a pressure-filled situation.

Hmm
I must have listened to a different segment here in DC. There was no mention of Andy Hill in the segement I listened to.

Coach was delightful to listen to. Made my morning.

Hey Nestor...
I think that is the second interview that they mentioned. There are two...one for yesterday with Hill (linked above) an one for today (Friday the 30th). Todays should be on the website later.

Great to see Coach getting the respect he deserves.

Go Bruins...Gator tastes like chicken!
