Wildcats set to dress up like clowns for tourney

Lute's kids are at it again. Take a look at the jerseys that the median plan on donning for their first round loss in the Pac-10 tournament:

As always, Deadspin has a few funny things to say about it:

They say the shirts are "10 inches tighter," and boy, are we happy they didn't have these things when Robert Traylor was playing.

By the way, someone's gonna trip on those shorts.

And what's most interesting is the post from the site that got the initial scoop:

Looks like those baggy shorts so popular among college hoops teams may finally be on their way out. Taking their place? Really, really baggy shorts. Starting tomorrow night, four top schools--Arizona, Florida, Ohio State, and Syracuse--will don Nike's System of Dress, a radical new look that brings Raf Simons-style proportion-play to the hard court. Complementing the aforementioned shorts are formfitting jerseys ten inches smaller in the torso, resulting in a second-skin look that's more Bode Miller than Ben Wallace.

Arizona's still being listed as a "top school"? I think they're more along the lines of "previously strong program which now will do anything for a couple of bucks from Nike". I wouldn't be surprised to see Oregon (aka Nike U) sporting something similar considering their "relationship" with Nike.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Epic.

Arizona will go against Oregon right? I am surprised the Orginal Nike U wasn't chosen for this freak show.

Go, go, Power Rangers!
Oh, dear.

It's not the Pac-10.

It's the Superfriends.

It's the Wildcat Super Power Hour.

It's the Justice League of Arizona.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Wildcats
These unis are so embarrassing, no further comment is necessary.

Uh wow
I am assuming this a Nike plan. No?

I really hope so
Fortunately we're an adidas program, so we won't have to worry about Nike trying to pull any of this crap with our uniforms... Although I normally root against the Wildpussies in Pac-10 play, I would like to see them beat Oregon so we can embarrass them for the third time this year.

Honestly,
is this a joke??

How can this not be a joke?  I mean, long sleaves!  What about pudgy players with bellies like Brockman on UW, or Tyler Hansborough with UNC -- do you think they are going to want to wear skin tight jerseys?  Heck no - pudgy white kids from the heartland are going to run from this like the plague.

What is it COLD in arenas these days!!!

How can this not be a joke . . . honestly?

At some point, Nike will make KILTS...
... for Division I basketball.

These "shorts" are borderline capris/ pedal pushers as it is.

Geez.

Nike: If it ain't broke, break it.
This is an example of what happens when marketing superceeds the game. Shame on Nike for trying to break a 50+ year convention for the sake of attracting a few more gay fans.

Nice Job, Nike
I can just see Tiger coming out in their new fab, fresh version of golf wear.

If the fans in Staples don't force the Mildcats to change uni's before halftime, then you haven't done your job.

(I have to apologize to OU.  I thought they voluntarily chose to wear the stupidest looking unis anywhere, but I gather Nike is forcing them (and forcing them to take their money, too.)  Nike really should check to see whether the people who might buy some sports togs are also devotees of "Queer Eye."

Oregon?
This is so bad that not even Oregon will wear it... nuff said.

Nike is embarrassing. The butt shorts that Kentucky and other teams wear with the team name on the rear end is ruining my fond memories of girls wearing similar shorts in Westwood. The Oregon football uniforms are of course beyond parody. Other teams have adopted some other style, I think it's a stripe along the side. It looks awful, just the same.

Hmmm.....
This like some weird futuristic gladiator outfit from THE RUNNING MAN. Only with shorts. Thanks ARNOLD!

Apparently, Florida, OSU, and Syracuse also...
... are putting on the clown suits.

I think, for the good of NCAA-watchers anywhere, all those with the pseudo-jerseys need to go down in flames in both their Conference Tourneys and the NCAA Tournament.

I want the Braveheart-meets-Power Rangers unis to be as synonymous with bad luck as an SI cover photo.

IT'S A GREAT IDEA!!!
Those teams are guaranteed to lose wearing those stupid yoga/dervish outfits!  They haven't played in them, can't run fast in them, balls will slip through their arms and they'll be distracted with all the attention!  I would love to play any of those teams in the final, and to hear one of our guys tell his counterpart "nice skirt" while waiting for a free throw.  Seriously, how can you run in those things?  It totally slows you down!

by tasser10 on Mar 7, 2007 4:27 PM PST reply actions

I guess it's the ultimate compromise
Either the shirts are too tight or the pants are too loose.  If the thought was to enhance performance, only one of those concepts should have been used.  Either a body suit, like track guys wear, or a totally baggy clown suit.  But not both.

(PLEEEEEZE let the teams wearing them lose, AND blame the stupid suits for making them lose.)

There is a story on Yahoo about these unis
According to the blowhard, I mean spokesman, for Nike, the new uniforms were in response to input from the players.  And he was referring to 'Zona.

You should read it.  According to Nike, the 'Zona guys really like these uniforms.  I guess when you're the standard, you are way ahead of the curve on uniforms, too.

Now, more than ever before, I want Zona to disappear from the tournament immediately, and then drop off the face of the earth permanently (but they should leave the Grand Canyon, because it's not so bad.  (For a while anyway.  Nike hasn't gotten around to a re-design of it at present.)

Five O'Clock free AZ uniform giveaway?
Through Yahoo, all I'm seeing is this subscriber link, which is more than good enough for me. Here's an except from the free portion of the story:
Nike is pushing for a big change with these new jerseys, including "a shift in culture surrounding the game to a more sophisticated, tailored look, but also the desire among youth to personalize their uniform look," according to a press release from the company.

Personalize? There's only one genius I know that would considering this "personalizing":

Tyrone Biggums must be the one in charge of design. There's no other way...
