Timmeh SCores: Lil' Romeo Commits to JustSC Basketball

I really thought this was a joke.  I mean, come on, he is Timmeh and all, and it is JustSC and all, but apparently, Master P's tyke, Lil' Romeo, him of outstanding kiddie hip-hop and Lil' Bow Wow rivalry fame, who apparently is a junior now in Beverly Hills High, has just committed to the 2008 basketball recruiting class:

High school basketball phenom O.J. Mayo is most likely going to USC for one year and then bouncing to the NBA, and everyone thinks it's because that's what O.J. Mayo wants to do. Not so. Mayo's leaving after one year because he's afraid to suffer the indignity of losing his starting job to the artist that brought us Romeoland.

That's right, it's Game Time. Lil' Romeo son of Master P, has committed to play basketball for Tim Floyd at USC. He just finished up his junior year at Beverly Hills High school, averaging 13.9 points and 5.6 assists per game. He also led the league in street cred.

Hmm, I could add a litany of insightful, funny commentary, but really, is it absolutely necessary?  I mean, I dunno about you, but apparently Coach Howland needs to hurry up and get going on recruiting wanna-be rappers because as a fan, I dunno if I can stand the additional indignity of being mocked by all the JustSC fans for not having a Nickelodian "star" on our team. Good thing the concept of a JustSC basketball fan is still theoretical only.

Let the mocking commence.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Nothing needs to be said
They mock themselves.  What an absolute joke.

yeah I have been reading about this.

Apparently Lil Romeo didn't get a scholie. He is "walkin on." And why is Romeo walking on. Because his Daddy reportedly is "tight" with their other recruit Derozan. So Lil Romeo is the gimmey. And apparently Master P is all tight with another hot shot recruit Sidney.

None of these guys are UCLA material in terms of character fit on and off the court.

So yeah Timmeh is building a program the "SEC" way by taking in players who are more known in the hard core recruiting circle for their entourage than their actual game.

Then again they are probably getting Master P involved because they need someone to do PR for them since Snoop may be heading towards the jail.

It always was
"Fight on, for u$c,
you pay your fee,
get your degree."

But it looks like now if your son is allowed on the team, daddy will provide plenty of funds to pay the first string.

I guess that's not all that unreasonable - sort of a reverse scholarship.

My knowledge of rap is somewhat limited.  (I thought it was just an appropriate contraction of "crap.")  But if these guys, whose pseudonyms are somewhat mysterious to me, are from the same genre of rap that I am aware of, then it is wholly appropriate that these gangster types are funding some program at justsc.

justsc continues to be a self-replicating mockery.

Music comparison
Let's see, family of Kevin Love -> Beach Boys. An American musical legacy.

"Lil' Romeo" -> http://youtube.com/watch?v=kuuUXnhfQGI

Not so much.

Rap psudeonyms
They are not all mysterious.

Lil' Romeo's Uncle/fellow Rap performer, "C-Murder". Shockingly, he is currently serving a life sentance for murder.

Wasn't/isn't he an agent?
IIRC, Master P had something to do with Ricky Williams' representation when he originally signed with the Saints.  A reeee-diculous contract of epic proportions.  Maybe he just ran the company, but still a bit dodgy if you ask me.

by sausmaf on Apr 15, 2007 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes
Has to have been the most idiotic pro sports contract of recent years (From a player's POV).

His profile says a scholarship was offered
I did hear that Floyd would probably end up asking for him to give up his scholarship and pay himself, but at least we can still hope he wastes a scholarship.

Also, I heard on wearesc.com that Daniel Hackett is not on scholarship because of a USC policy that says that children of university employees get in free.  Has anyone else heard that he doesn't count to their scholarship limit?

"Believe it or not, a website called FireHowland.com now exists."

Lil Romeo to $C
Yeah, I guess it was only a matter of time before $C caught us in the recruiting wars.  But it looks like they've outdone us here.  However, it brings to mind our own previous failed efforts at signing Urkel to play for the Bruins.  Word is that he recognized that Lavin was not going to develop his talent into NBA level abilities, so he decided to just show up at every game and make an ass-clown out of himself from the stands.

One Star Recruit!!!!!
Why is SC wasting a scholarship on a one star recruit? He's a millionaire and can technically and legally buy himself the Rodney Dangerfield lifestyle from that movie Back To School(Ironically shot at SC).

I bet they can use his personal fortune as a cover and commit repeated recruiting violations.

Maybe they already did.

WTF?
I was sure this was a joke, but apparently note.

Damnit
I knew that Howland would come to regret not having left a scholie open for Lil' Bow Wow this year.

by bruinhoo on Apr 15, 2007 6:12 PM PDT reply actions

Hey
How many of you guys knew that Jennings had decommitted from $C? Rivals did, apparently, but I just found out. Only 4 more days 'till we find out who Sonny was talking about. I'm giddy.
Duke and North Carolina called: They want Steve Lavin back. GO BRUINS!!

Yes
I knew about it when it happened. I didn't feel wasting my writing about JustSC hoops.

Besides I have you guys to keep me posted!

well.....
maybe lil romero's  b-ball career will be longer than his musical career

Thr gap is getting bigger
I thought the boys at USC were supposedly closing the gap that exsists between the two programs?. It seems to me that gap just got allot bigger.

by Bruin10 on Apr 15, 2007 9:25 PM PDT reply actions

hilarious!
What a great way to "close the gap"! We had TJ Cummings in a Missy Elliot video, and SC thinks they'll just have to recruit a child rapper to keep up the pace. It must make sense in their warped little minds.

by sfatoo on Apr 15, 2007 9:26 PM PDT reply actions

My musical tastes are a little different
from many who have posted, and I don't exactly understand who or what some of these people are or do.  (I like music from the 50's.  For example, we just finished Il Trovatore, which was composed in 1853.)

I recognize the patent absurdity of asking someone to explain the significance of players who aren't particularly skillful.  But apparently knowing who they are would generate opportunities to mock justsc, a concept that has inherent virtue.  So would someone give the Readers Digest version of who all these people are, and why I should care any more about knowing them than they care about knowing me.

Just the son of a "famous" rapper
Lil Romeo on wikipedia

His dad was a rapper/producer who was famous for churning out album after album of crap rap music, but it would somehow sell. The kid had a musical career of his own and had a rap album when he was like 12 years old and was even bad for a kid that age.

by sfatoo on Apr 15, 2007 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions

How could BH let this happen?
I thought we had such great recruiting power, but now it appears that SC and TF have taken the lead with this most promising of recruits.  (I heard somewhere he's better than Kobe!)

by Ericppk on Apr 15, 2007 9:54 PM PDT reply actions

Relax
I'm sure we've already contacted Lil' Bow Wow to counter this gut punch they've delivered to our recruiting efforts.

by Tydides on Apr 15, 2007 10:14 PM PDT up reply actions

not so sure
I hear that Bob Huggins is recruiting him rather hard.

tell me this was meant to be sarcastic.

Sonny Vaccaro
Any new news on our "mystery recruit?"  Is it really lil bow wow? or is it Legion? Why are there only 4 days left?

I heard that Timmeh...a.k.a Pink Floyd (what Mike Jordan called him as he left the franchise b/c he didn't want to be coached by "pinky") recruited lil' Romeo to improve season ticket sales...since the only time they sold out Galen Center was when they hosted the Bruins...maybe they hope the young girls from the locale (south central) will flock in droves and fill the seats of the pathetically empty arena of theirs?

by FUSC on Apr 16, 2007 1:08 AM PDT reply actions

4 days
In his "mystery recruit" interview on AM 570, Sonny Vaccaro said that the recruit would sign in the next 2 weeks, the expiration of which, I believe is 4 days away.

by bruinhoo on Apr 16, 2007 8:37 AM PDT up reply actions

Tim "Pink" Floyd
From now on, he should be addressed by his proper name--Pink Floyd or simply Pinky

by FUSC on Apr 16, 2007 1:08 AM PDT reply actions

We did this discussion already
A few of us decided to drop the whole "Pink Floyd" thing because it was completely insulting--to the creators of Dark Side of the Moon of course, not the Dark Side of Recruiting.

Different Generation Different Music Tastes
So being born the 80s, hiphop/rap/r&b are all I listen to. But Lil Romeo was/still is a huge joke in the hip hop community just as he is making himself now. Never liked him and now I never will.

Arrested on a Gun Charge
I was a CSO at UCLA a year and a half ago when Masta P and Sillk da Shocker got arrested by the UCPD for having loaded wepons in their SUV as they were rolling around campus. Hearing the radio traffic between the UCs describing the arrest made working a library shift in the middle of the day bareable. Here's to hoping lil bow wow (or whatever his name is) has the same problems as his father. FUSC

Katz has USC BB Favored to win Pac 10 in 2008!
LOL.  Maybe this is why? Here is the link to his idiocy:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2007/news/story?id=2839924

How does this guy get paid? Wow.

Go Bruins!!!

by JoeBruin on Apr 17, 2007 12:02 PM PDT reply actions

Just hearsay
Reporters are parrots. Katz doesn't want to go through the required analysis to actually examine each team, returning starters, etc. so he just repeats what he's heard somewhere else. Whatever.

by tasser10 on Apr 17, 2007 12:47 PM PDT up reply actions

He just said that SUC
is "a favorite", not "the favorite."  So Katz doesn't have SUC favored to win the Pac10...at least not from that article.

by bornagainbruin on Apr 17, 2007 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions

He's using a network term
When networks, like ABC, scout what college basketball teams will appear on national TV they label them into two catagories: Conference Favorites(Top 4-5) and Unwatchables.

In the eyes of the networks I could see how justSC might be more attractive to pre-schedule than Washinton St for next season.

Meanwhile our Bruins are cashcows for the networks and will play the maximum number of national games next year.
