Prayers

On behalf of everyone in Bruins Nation I would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Virginia Tech family today.

As we read more about this incredibly sad tragedy, it shakes us to our very cores.

Please join me in saying a prayer for those who we lost and for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

Our hearts are with you, VA Tech

Amen
It boggles the mind why anyone would do this.  We'll get answers in the following days, but none of us will ever know why.

My heart aches for the families who have lost loved ones, and for the entire VT student body.

Surreal
I first heard about the first (dorm) shooting before class this morning. Heard about the horrible scope of this while studying this afternoon and just couldn't believe it at first.

Surreal in just being around town today, hearing students here worrying about friends at Tech, adults concerned about their children and those of their friends, even the manager at chik-fil-a asking other employees about a fmr worker now at school there. I can only imagine that those of you in DC/NoVa has been experiencing this, or will be in the next few hours.

My thoughts are with those in Blacksburg, their families, my many friends that attended Virginia Tech. All those affected by this day.

I hate this story
What an a$$h0le if he wanted to kill something he should have just hurt himself instead of innocent people.

I hope the families can survive this.

It breaks my heart.

Ive lost many friends to Iraq and I know it hurts now but, hopefully they will do what ive done and remember the good times you had when they were here.

So sad
This is a horrible, senseless tragedy.  The more I watch the news about this, the sicker I feel.

This is a terrible, terrible day.  This just breaks me up and I hope the survivors and loved ones of the deceased somehow find peace.

It Hits Home
Especially to all college students on any major college campus across the nation. When an incident like this happens in a place you find yourself on most (or all) of the time, its very disturbing and scary. Cant imagine what the mood is on campus today...let alone those in Blacksburg where my heart and prayers go out to the entire community and affect families.

if anyone was wondering
the shootings took place in small classroom style

by bruin06 on Apr 16, 2007 9:58 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

oops
accidentally hit the post button.

the shootings took place in small discussion classrooms where 5 classes ranking from 5-27 students were taking place...makes it even worse with how terrifying it mustve been with nowhere to run but out the window...

Truly shocking
But Iraq is (literally) 100 times worse.  And those deaths can be prevented.  Which is another thing that makes these shootings so scary- we can't do anything about it.

Thoughts and prayers...
To the families.  It's so far past even being able to understand.  I can't imagine waiting at the dorm to see who is still alive or trying to get my kid on the cellphone...  And I feel for the shooters family as well, they certainly don't deserve what's coming for them.  Something this senseless will take a long time to heal if it does at all.

And SBM, is this really the appropriate forum for Iraq?

On The Same Day
where 33 people died in Blacksberg, 50+ people died in Iraq, the difference is that people in Iraq face this kind of violence every day.

This may or may not be an appropriate forum of Iraq. But to me, death is death.

i know what you are saying but...
definintely not the appropriate time or forum for Iraq.

try telling that to the grieving families of the victims today

Bottom line
Losing innocent lives is horrible. And GUNS SUCK.

Horrible, sickening, heartbreaking, terrifying...
How else could this possibly be described?

Just added everyone at VaTech affected by this senseless act to my daily rosary.  (I have a half-hour commute in the morning, so I pray when stuck in traffic.)

Such incredible, chilling evil.

I've heard bits and pieces of reports about what could make the killer do this.

Right now, I'm not certain I care.

All I do care about regarding this incident is how many fathers and mothers lost their children.

How many children lost parents?

How many young people, hoping to one day look back at college as a priceless period of life,  lost lovers... friends... or faith in their world?

How many police officers thought they were doing the right thing only to learn that more ultimately needed to be done?

There will be plenty of time for questions, sadly.

I pray that all of these people will find healing, strength, and at least some measure of comfort.

There's going to be a lot of talk about justice, of vengeance, of security, of vigilance.

At a minimum, I hope there is some peace.

"Hokie Hope" Day this Friday
Per the official VaTech website (www.vt.edu), the alumni are leading the push for a "Hokie Hope" Day this Friday, with as many people as possible wearing orange and maroon.

I bleed blue and gold... but if it sends good thoughts and sympathy and support, then I will solemnly and proudly be a Hokie for a day.

In their hour of need, I respectfully move that the Bruins Nation temporarily annex itself as a province of the Hokie Nation.

God be with them, and all of us.

MIM

And we will have our vengeance, in this game and the next.

If you want to take the lead and write a diary on it, we will more than happy to bump it on to the home page on Friday.

Let me get thru a depo on thursday...
... and I'll take care of a short diary entry for it.

Ahh, the "short depo."
I never had one.  They all went long.
