Howland lands 5 star Drew Gordon

From the diaries. The hits just keep coming from the best basketball coach in America. GO BRUINS. -N

Just a little while ago, Drew Gordon, the number #8 Power Forward and the twentieth ranked player in the class of 2008 committed to Howland and the Bruins. He's already a great player with fantastic potential.

Malcom Lee - five star player, # 3 ranked point guard, #19 player in the country

Drew Gorden - five star player, number #8 power forward, number #20 player in the ocuntry

Jerime Anderson - very high four star, number #5 point guard, number #42 player the country (not to mention that his stock is currently soaring.)

What a fantastic class...

Now that we got Drew, lets get Jrue...

A Howland Type Player
Line that caught me -- "Good defender and shot blocker. Offensive skills are somewhat raw, but has all the tools to be a big-time player."

Sounds like a great get.

The most telling thing
that tells me why he's a perfect Howland player was a quote where a scout described his best asset as "...an unstoppable motor."

Great get for UCLA
This guy strengths play to Howland-style ball, so he should get some nice minutes as Love's backup.  Once Drew advances on the offensive side of the ball, he should become a star.  He is reminiscent of a raw Joakim Noah, sans all the bullshit.

We still are recruiting Jrue (and making a charge there) and another big from somewhere in the country (hopefully Aminu, Thompkins, or Zeller.  We could end up with the number 1 class.

Just Curious
Who is coordinating our recruiting? Doesn't look like we've had the slightest fall off.

I don't know who's coordinating it
but Donny Daniels headed the Gordon recruitment from Day 1 and brought him in.

I've heard DG is a bit "raw" on offense
Is he further ahead than Mata was in HS.  I mean, I love Mata's Def and heart, but he is still limited a bit offensively, is Gordon ahead in terms of development?  I also have heard theories that Gordon and Holiday are close or friends and that landing one may help landing the other.... no matter what, those "Howland can't recruit" BS assertions don't apply anymore.  Love/Stanback followed by Anderson/Lee/Gordon and hopefully Holiday and he's in the running for all the '09 studs.  I LOVE OUR COACH!
Go Bruins, Go Howland, F-Lavin, and let's get rid of Dorrell....

He is more advanced than Mata
on both sides of the ball.  Gordon has only been playing ball for 4 years and he has developed a good game.  He does need work on the offensive end, but he also did not get enough opportunities on the teams he played for.

My personal feeling
is that you can't get to #8 at your position without solid skills at both ends of the floor, unless you are absolutely lights out at either defense or offense, in which case, it doesn't really matter.

Offense is more important
The people doing rankings on these big recruiting sites probably care more about the players offensive skills than defensive skills, so he can't be too bad offensively.  If he's a 5 star player while "raw" on offense, they must think that he's really good on defense.

Well I'm going to try and stay calm
until he actually makes the announcement, but what a HUGE development this would be. Especially after the "Gordon to UW" rumors. Not only would this be an enormous infusion of talent, but it also sweetens the deal for one Jrue Holiday. I've heard that Holiday and Gordon are good friends, as well as either Lee or Anderson, or maybe all three. I can't remember right now.

Jerime and Jrue
are real good friends.  I have not heard anything about Drew and Jrue.

Well all the stuff I heard
was all rumors anyway. Who really knows who is friends with whom? In the end, I believe it makes the most basketball sense for Holiday to be a Bruin with Gordon signing on to man the paint for us.

Just to take a quick step back, I would once again like to thank AA for getting this train started.

Jrue knows of Drew Gordon at the least
and Jrue wants to play with great players, so it does help us.

I wonder if Steve Sloan helped
You die hard bruin fans might recall that we got a football player from Mitty named Steve Sloan who committed in the fall . . . im sure he had a few kind words of advice for Mr. Gordon.

I absolutely remember
It's certainly a possibility.
