tired of people claiming this site is anti-dorrell..
I understand this site can be hard on dorrell, but it's not like its undue. The moderators and other posters continually give objective arguments that are always backed up with hard facts. I understand that numbers can be manipulated in many ways, but they always give there sources and from that information how they came to their conclusions. I like many other bruin fans are optimistic about the season, we want to see our time succeed, if we didn't we wouldn't spend our money on games we can watch on tv or at the local sports bar. So for anyone that plans to rip on this site again for being anti-dorrell please do your research and look at the body of work that this site has amassed. Read the about us section, so you understand who these ppl are.
About dorrell, I'm not too optimistic, I'll give him a chance but that obviously isn't by choice (were not the AD). For those pro-Dorrell people, please again take a look at the 7 games we won the past year, and read the posts following such games. We had a few quality wins. The one that sticks out is Rice. At half-time being up only 13-0 and 16-10 going into the 4th quarter is not acceptable. I also feel like the random posters who see this as an anti-dorrell, were non-existent between the suc game and the Emerald Bowl. If you read this blog, Nestor, dumpdorrell, and other posters were actually optimistic about Dorrell because for some reason he showed a different side of himself, (except for still conservative play calling), that gave us, and especially the moderators some hope. But then if you watched the disaster in bay, Dorrell for some reason regressed back to his old self. So for you people who see this as anti-dorrell, you're blind because Nestor and the other prominent posters will give Dorrell credit when its due, until then we're hoping he'll prove us wrong, and not just once, but consistently.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Well said
And I can think of no one who has ever suggested that there is anything wrong with Mr. Dorrell, the person. He's a great guy, I would be proud to call him a friend.
But there are many things he is not qualified to do. I would not want him as the chief surgeon for my heart transplant. I would not want him landing the Space Shuttle when I'm on board. And I don't want him coaching my football team.

Also, Well Said
As you said 71 more elequently than I did in a post yesterday, Dorrell the person is not the problem, Dorrell the coach (based on his inabilty to meet the performance goals he himself articulated when he took the job)is.

I think the venom comes from...
I prefer not to insult people coming in here, and instead respond to them with reason and polite invitations to respond with facts and data.
Funny how I never seem to get a dialogue going when I do that... BTW, has anybody seen Bill and Ted recently?

People don't like to get involved
I have extended many invitations for people to engage in a dialogue about why they would let their children go to that place across town. The responses have basically been only insults. Flame throwing is hardly a substitute for reasoned discussion.

You
As a follow-up to your comments, I think the discussions on BN are, more often than not, very well-mannered. A few rabble-rousers shake the tree from time to time, but overall, the discussions are generally respectful.

Thanks Red
First they ignore you
Then they laugh at you
Then they fight you
Then you win.
We have come a long way. Couple of years ago BN didn't register a blimp on anyone's radar. Then we started reading the snide digs on other boards. And now people are coming here trying to engage (not so successfully given what we have seen from posters like "Bill & Ted")
I'd say we are on the right track wrt to creating a community which envisions and demands a UCLA athletics program that strives for excellence in every facets of its program while doing what it can to connect passionate Bruin alums, students, and fans from all across the nation.
GO BRUINS.

Go to the other boards
They have absolutely no basis for argument. Every time I give them a fact about KD's performance, they come back with "he's been recruiting well, you just wait and see". I have been accused countless times of not being a "true Bruin fan". They simply cannot use KD's performance to justify their optimism and blast anyone who does not share their faith, because that is the only engine that powers their arguments. To be fair, quite a few people are using this year as their barometer, but they still tell you to shut up until the season starts, as if criticizing KD's past performance means that we are rooting for the team to lose. Quite childish and pathetic.

why was my post

I didn't delete it, but
- It was opinion masquerading as fact.
- The factual predicates for your thesis were never explained.
- You may have sounded hysterical.
- You may have sounded juvenile.
- You may have made ad hominem attacks on players or coaches.
One question - please point out who has been critical of Mr. Dorrell, the person. I am his biggest critic, but I have never attacked him as a person because in my opinion he doesn't warrant it. The number one reason for that is his heritage: He's a Bruin.
To my way of thinking, there are only two negatives about Mr. Dorrell. First, he is a horrible coach. (I'm too lazy to cite all the reasons, but they've been rehashed at length.) Second, he speaks in cliches, making it impossible to understand what he is really trying to say. (Speaking in cliches is a something that is learned, like picking one's nose. And like picking one's nose, it is a habit that can and must be broken.)
There is nothing else wrong about Mr. Dorrell in my opinion. So am I "anti-Dorrell as a coach?" Absolutely, and will be anti-Dorrell the coach until he achieves the goals he set for himself. But am I "anti-Dorrell as a person?" Absolutely not. He seems to be a great guy, and someone who I would be proud to call a friend.
One more question, and it's a real one. Can you really not tell the distinction between a critique of Mr. Dorrell's record as a coach and an attack on him personally? I absolutely do not want to be guilty of that and would appreciate it if you could point out how this is an ad hominem attack on Mr. Dorrell personally.

Because
And no need for apology next time you are proven wrong. Lets cut down on the drama.
