This idea began in a thread in Nestor's Movie Night post and then N. also suggested this idea as a separate thread. Maybe it's run its course, but we'll see.
Many of us get a kick out of hearing UCLA mentioned in movies (let's expand it to include TV, too), or seeing shots of UCLA in movies.
I mentioned a teen comedy from the 80s--The Sure Thing--which showed several shots of UCLA (Janns Steps, the Delta House, Sproul Hall) and mentioned UCLA by name several times during the movie. I think it's worth a rental but please, spare me the hate mail because it isn't Terminator VI. It ain't. You can read more about the movie on the net, I'm sure, but I enjoyed it and it gets bonus points for the UCLA references and shots of the campus (and also for the several shots of Nicollette Sheridan in a bikini).
Several posters have already mentioned other movies which showed or referenced UCLA. If you have heard UCLA mentioned in other movies, or TV shows, or hell, how about anywhere in popular culture (music?), let's hear it.
If this diary doesn't catch on, how about answering this question: Where were you when the Bruins won the b-ball title in 95? What was the atmosphere like?
I was at the Mission Valley Trophy's, in San Diego, watching the game in the bar with a group of friends. We all collectively said an "Oh sh*t," when Tyus went down about two minutes into the game. But Cameron D. stepped up and our boys shot down those arrogant Razorbacks and the rest is history. I remember the bar was packed and, maybe my memory is convenient, but I cannot recall any Arkansas fans (or sympathizers) present. It was mainly all UCLA fans.
Let's hear your story. Was anyone there in person at the game?
Special note to Fox regarding the L.A. Opera's 2007/08 season: Fidelio, Jenufa, Don Giovanni, La Bheme, Tristan Und Isolde, Otello, Recovered Voices (?), Tosca, and La Rondine. Sounds very Italian to me--not that there is anything wrong with that (I'm part Sicilian myself). Your thoughts?
