Basketball Updates

So a few updates from the basketball program...

Mustafa Abdul-Hamid has switched to #4.   Its going to be weird to see Mustafa wearing Arron's old number.   He apparently is in line for a scholarship next year if he keeps working hard.  I'm not sure how all of this works out but he seemed confident that he has a shot at getting a scholarship.

Coach Howland was in the mid-west on a recruiting trip this week.  Joe Hillock seems like a nice guy.    I met him last week.  He's a little strange and very friendly.  He seems like he's a good fit for the job.

Cedric Bozeman stopped by UCLA.   He played in Europe last year after playing half the season in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and won a championship with a team in Belgium.

I didn't realize that Clay McKnight, the video coordinator, is the son of Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight.  This gives us a very good shot at landing the Wear twins in the 2009 class.

Clay McKnight
He was mentioned last year in a Sports Illustrated(?) article about package deals.  The writer implied that McKnight was hired for the sole purpose of landing the Wear twins.  Other players mentioned in the article were (IIRC) Daniel Hackett, Trajan Langdon and James Harden (ASU incoming freshman).

Found the article
It's by Seth Davis

"A few weeks ago, UCLA hired Clay McKnight, whose father, Gary, happens to be the coach at Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, Calif. You think having Clay, who has previously worked at Oregon State, Syracuse and USC, might give the Bruins a leg up in their pursuit of David and Travis Wear, 6-foot-10 sophomore twins at Mater Dei? I think so, too."
