First ever open house

Ran across this in my inbox this morning, thought it might be cool to share for anyone looking to get season tix:

Don't miss your chance to grab the best upper level season seat locations available for the 2007-08 Men's Basketball season. Accept your invitation to the first annual Select-A-Seat Open House Sunday, July 22, noon - 3:00pm at Pauley Pavilion (UCLA Campus).

Available seats will be tagged in the arena for fans to purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Only 700?
Are the rest already sold as season seats or do they leave a certain amount open for GAs?

by Free the 16 on Jul 16, 2007 1:22 PM PDT reply actions

there are no GA's
Last year everything was sold.  The problem was people who paid for their tickets didn't show.  So many games we had 10,000 people, and 2000 no shows whose seats could have gone to someone more dedicated.

Also good luck finding parking that day as it will be in the middle of the tennis tournament this week.

For games you can't or don't want to attend.
Let's fill Pauley for every game this season. Ticket holders should contact the athletic department to help distribute tickets to games you can't make. The athletic department has relationships with local schools, youth groups and boys/girls clubs that would love access to some games.

A great opportunity to get some excited fans in the seats for some of the second tier games.

Hopefully they can develop a system
The LA Dodgers have developed a Ticket Exchange program (which is linked off their main site) where season ticket holders can sell their seats to individual games they cannot attend. It is very organized as any random fan can purchase them at the season ticket holder's asking price off of the main site. It's like Ebay but the Dodgers organization are actually the middle man (men?) so there's no actual contact between the buyer and seller, which eliminates potential flakiness and speeds up last minute transactions. I know it doesn't matter to hardcore bruin fans where they sit at football or basketball games, but as an extra bonus, the buyer can actually see the specific seat they are purchasing. Is there any way the athletic department can develop a system like this?

As said earlier, a lot of season ticket holders cannot make every game so a system like this would be greatly beneficial, especially last minute backouts.

They have
through ticketmaster, started last fall for Football and Mens Basketball [Link on the homepage, right side on the blogroll - "UCLA Athletics Ticket Exchange"], exactly like the Dodgers' system that you describe.

I do hope that the athletic department advertises the system in a wider fashion this coming year; it certainly holds promise.

Don't assume rational thinking
in the Athletic Department.  These are the same wise people who think Mr. Dorrell is doing a fine job, and deserves an automatic contract rollover and raise.

One upside to this system
Ticketmaster runs it. The fact that Ticketmaster, greedy bastards that they are, operate the site is a good thing. They get a cut of all the resales, just like any other Ticketmaster operation, and so should  be expected to publicize the program on their website.

The ticket exchange is an option and so is stubhub
But I don't think that anybody is going to get rich selling tickets to the UC Davis game.

Why not give unwanted tickets to kids who will otherwise never have a chance to see a Bruin game.

Kids will get exposure to the campus, Pauley, The Banners... and become Bruins for life.

If the option is eating the ticket I say give it away!

How much do these tickets cost?
Friends,
How much do season tickets cost? Since graduating I haven't had the chance to make many basketball games, but these year I plan to make a bunch. So how much do season tickets cost? Is there an equivlant 'young alumni' tickets for basketball like there are for football?
Victory or until next year!

by ncrpz2 on Jul 17, 2007 11:33 AM PDT reply actions

Cost
$567.00/seat, for 20 games in all.

There is no 'young alumni' discounted plan like for football, though it seems that in prior seasons, partial season plans have been offered (there is no indication as of yet that such a plan will be offered this season).

Ugh
Why couldn't they just put the basketball court in the middle of rose bowl? It would make the seats a hellva lot cheaper... Thanks for the info dude.

young alumni football
Are those still available for this upcoming football year? I was planning on just going GA for the season. But I'd love to catch the ND game live and that's the only game that I think will sell out. I took a look at my ucla ticketmaster account and couldn't find anything like the young alumni pass I picked up last year.

For b-ball, I picked up a weekend pass last year, but it doesn't appear like those are available or even will be offered this year.

Lucky students
makes one look back even more fondly to being a UCLA student, with the cheap season tickets (I think I paid $129 for Football and full Basketball season tickets in 2003/04 - most of those games spent in the 100-level student section). With the upcoming Pauley renovation, I doubt seats will ever get cheaper, though hopefully more plentiful.

One of the benefits of being old
In addition to the incidental fee being $121.80 per semester, the football games were free and the baskeball games were a quarter each (or maybe it was the other way around.)  I know you got little tabs that tore off your ID card that got you into football games.

The Rose Bowl was extra, but back then no one would think of selling those tix.  (UCLA 14, MSU 12.  A good game.)
