"[P]arents are watching"
On July 30 we heard this from Mr. Grimes (who is becoming a household name in BN):
"We anticipate before the end of the week this will be cleared up," Grimes said. "We talked to the neighbors. This kid wasn't involved in any crime. This should not be challenged in the courts."
Apparently Mr. Grimes may not be in close contact with the Sherrif's office because on July 31 we got this:
I spoke with Sgt. Leonard Rivas of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department a short bit ago, and he said there has still been no contact made with the people who reside in the Norwalk house Bruins assistant coach Eric Scott and two other men were arrested on suspicion of burglary. Rivas added that the department could wait the full month before sending the information to the district attorney's office.
(emphasis added) So no one is exactly sure who is talk to who, what information is coming out. And we still don't have any definitive information on whether or not Scott lied in the hiring process and what did Dorrell know and when did he know.Only think certain at this point, as noted by this poster on BruinZone is that our program is under a cloud and the parents are watching:
I certainly would not want to be in CKD's cleats right now...that's for sure.
If it is just Scott sitting in a car not knowing what is going on...that's one thing..but if the other two guys with him have something to hide and want to share the blame....re a very watered down comparison to the Vick case.....then we will all be diving into the bomb shelters.
My concern then would become parents and recruiting .....send your kid to a mediocre program with this type of stuff going on?
It's the appearance that damns as the threshold issue in incidents like this when it comes from the staff rather than the student athletes. CKD hopefully won't have to do that kind of repair job if this turns out to be one big misunderstanding.
However....the remedy if there is more to this re the employement application "processing" might not be so measured and delicate particularly with a new chancellor taking over the helm at our alma mater, a chancellor who knows or owes few people in Westwood.
This is the wild card nobody has even hinted at so far from reading these many posts over the last few days.
There is a new sheriff in town.
Well no one here on BN will be diving for the bomb shelters considering we have been demanding transparency and accountability re. this issue from the day this story came out. The only folks who are going to be seeking cover are the blindos who have invested all of their credibility in a mediocre coach's mediocre program (as noted by the poster). If it is just Scott sitting in a car not knowing what is going on...that's one thing..but if the other two guys with him have something to hide and want to share the blame....re a very watered down comparison to the Vick case.....then we will all be diving into the bomb shelters.

But the bottom line is as long as the Eric Scott related cloud hovers over Dorrell's program, the whole incident will continue to stick out and keep soiling the "clean image" of the football program and our university. And the parents are certainly watching while all this is going on. Not good news for Dorrell (and UCLA).
GO BRUINS.
