Keefe to have Surgery on Shoulder

According to Yahoo, Keefe injured his shoulder (torn cartilidge) during the summer.  The injury was discovered on Tuesday and he will have surgery on Friday here at UCLA.  They say recovery shoyuld take around 4 months.

Yahoo: UCLA forward James Keefe to have left shoulder surgery

"This is disappointing because I've been working hard this spring and summer in workouts getting my body stronger," he said. "Hopefully I'll be able to recover quickly and be back at full strength by the time Pac-10 play starts."

I just want to say good luck to Keefe on the surgery and hurry back.  He seemed to be improving both his game and his physique over the summer.  Sucks to see this happen to a kid with such potential.  Hopefully he makes it back for the PAC-10 season and doesn't fall behind and lose his spot.

So what do you guys think this means?  Is this a huge loss, a minor loss, should he red shirt and come back next year or hop in midseason and maybe be a bit fresher at the end of the season?  Maybe we can get our injuries out of the way before the season starts and be healthy as it goes on. (knocks on wood).  Doubtful though.

I am pretty disappointed
I don't think we'll know for sure how big of a loss this is, but fortunately for us, the position he plays is already quite deep. However, Howland did say that we need to "watch" for Keefe, indicating that he was ready to blow up, which would make this a pretty big loss.

If he can come in and bring a little of what he learned over the summer by the time Pac 10 season begins, it should work out okay. Not great, but okay.

Get well soon, James.

Tough news for James
Saw this in the LAT (as much I hate the paper now still nice to read a hard copy) yesterday.

Thank God this is a position we are deep and well stocked up. Hopefully James has a healthy recovery, a focused rehab, and get back late in December. He just can't get down and I am sure his coaches and his team-mates will not let him get down. He will get a chance to make meaningful contributions to the team this coming season.

Keefe replacement
My man, Nikola Dragovic, will learn to play defense with his knees bent, and fill in to get meaningful minutes and become a star. My prediction!!!
