Pac-10 Coaches - 2007 South Park

I noticed there appeared to be a void in the many updated coaches as South Park entries for 2007 - the SEC one was hilarious (the shot of Nick Saban really is priceless). But alas, there was no Pac-10 version for 2007! So, that said, I decided to remedy that. I couldn't really pass up the opportunity to poke some more fun at Pete Carroll, and hell, Dennis Erickson is a waiting mine-field of comedic joy. He's almost as vulnerable as Saban - not quite, though.

At any rate, here are your 2007 Pac-10 conference coaches. Cross-posted from my own blog, but figured I'd share with you guys over here. Karl of course retains his handy playbook - no doubt to easily refer to the run, run, pass combinations he and Norvell will through at defenses this year. And of course, Pete Carroll is just so happy to be watched on high by a chorus of angels. He'll get through thanking them, just as soon as he gets back from skateboarding and body-surfing in Hermosa Beach. He has to work on his tan, after all.

And Jim Harbuagh really likes his whip. He plans on using it on his offensive line after they fold under defensive pressure. And then everyone will run wind sprints. Five times. In the sun.

Mike Stoops just wants another beer.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Hey a black man with a gun
So original. What next, some drugs in his hat. Oh why stop there? We have managed to cleanse our school from his kind anyways. Lets make it more interesting. How about a white girl running away from him because he is black and more prone to rape her than help her. The hell with the person who posted this. As an african-american alum, I am sad to see this.

Attack his coaching abilities. Attack his decision making regarding football. Attack his stupid comments that make you question his UCLA education. Attack whatever you need to get rid of COACH KD. Attach a hand cuff to Eric Scott.

But to attach a stereotypic image to an African American coach... ahhhhhh whatever, things will never change.

could be worse
CA could have put Ty Willingham's crack pipe in his hand, rather than his back pocket. right?

You need to chill
hyper-sensitivity should not silence freedom of the press or free speech.

First, you need
to take a nice, deep breath and relax. Second, I'd like you to accept my sincere apology. I absolutely had no thought whatsoever of the whole 'black man with a gun' thing when I was pulling it together - I was merely paralleling off the Eric Scott story. I had a nice long diary written up about how it's not fair to automatically make assumptions about my character or feelings based on seeing things through *your* prism, but I don't really see the need. I sincerely doubt any words I provide to you will change your mind on much of anything you believe about me. Fair enough. I'm sorry for that as well. After reflecting, I think your assessment is kinda' fair though, and I could easily see how it could be taken poorly. I fixed the picture for posterity's sake. One suggestion in the future, however: you might find that reasoned discussion instead of verbal diatribe. No one appreciates having their character impugned, especially not by someone whom they do not know at all. Cheers, Jason

It's sad to see an alum
so quick to make an assumption and cry "racism."  To pull the race card on something like this, considering the Scott situation, is idiotic.  You should be ashamed for throwing Jason under bus like that.

Also, I give this site and Jason a ton of props.  Most sites would have just bitched at the guy for his "sky is falling" tactics.  However, this site is mature enough to see the SUBSTANCE of Justwatching's rant; that is, using the gun is just too stereotypical an image to use, even though the gun reference is understandable considering the Scott situation.

Oh Yeah
Bring on the golf club!!

Great!
I hope you didn't remove the gun because of justwatching's statement.  At least replace it with a golf club, or better yet, a sombero.
Go Bruins!!!

Now the golf club
is one good idea!!!!!

How about a compass?
You know, since CKD is always talking about the "direction" we're heading.

Golf club PLEASE
Please for the love of God give him a golf club Jason.

And thanks again to both of you for working this out!

Thanks for the reply
I don't want to come of as a hypersensitive jerk, who thinks that the world is out to get him. Hey, I even made some jab in the Cal basketball post. All I am sayiing is, the gun went too far. Being a site intended for bruins, who only want to see a better coach at the helm of the football team, I am all for the objective criticism brought against KD. I might annoy Nestor once in a while about his "south campus" hate, j/k, but I can understand the Bruinsnation's frustration. Thanks for fixing it.

I don't want fuel a dwindling fire, but
if you're going to pick on someone for making a reference to the Coach Scott fiasco, logically you should jump out of your skin about a white man with a whip.  Just another example of racism.  Etc.  Blah, blah, blah.

No one knows what another person's level of sensitivity is.  But by just about any measure, this was not even close to the same genre as "White Nation," for example.

But the best aspect of this mini-dispute is that it's over.

I want all of us to be one happy Bruin family
However, it just seems that CAJason's freedom of expression has been compromised.  His original image was just like an editorial/political cartoon, an expression of opinion.  He should not have been made to feel obligated to edit his work to appease one person's (my opinion to follow) over-reaction.

At the same time, I also defend justwatching's right to react the way he did.  That is his freedom of speech.

But there was no malice originally intended toward any group or ethnicity.  It was poking fun at one particularly individual, KD, and how he dealt with Scott's past issues with guns.

The cartoon, to me, now has lost its original "bite," and it should not have been revised.

That was handled a bit more nicely...
than I had thought might have occurred.

Yes, but at the sacrifice of
CAJason's artistic and other freedom.  Personally, I do not view this as a positive outcome.

I'm still waiting for the golf club
And I think CONTEXT means everything. Substitute the gun with a golf club. Most people would ask themselves "what the hell does that mean?". But we here know exactly what it means. You can kill with a golf club too. But a gun conjures up violent images and has a stereotype attached to it in that people view it as a violent tool used only to kill. So perhaps the complaint should be to the gun manufacturers and not the artist.

I can understand being offended only if you didn't get the inside joke. You don't see anyone religious getting upset about the halo over Cheatie Petie's head...

by tasser10 on Aug 22, 2007 11:51 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Actually, I AM offended by the halo...
... but only because of who's wearing it.

I'm Catholic, but a LOUSY one, and I know I have to do a whole boatload of good deeds if I'm to have the slightest chance of going to heaven to hopefully be with God and to reunite with my wife and kids after I die.

But Carroll?  A man who's far from humble, far from meek, and yet seems to encourage the (alleged) rule-breaking and lawlessness and unaccountability of his own players, guys he claims he's trying to help mold and guide into becoming upstanding, responsible young men???

The thought of HIM with a halo bugs me.

WHY NOT US? WHY NOT NOW?

by Meriones on Aug 22, 2007 12:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

YES!
I was hoping someone else would notice! That's the irony though, isn't it? He's not saying Carroll IS an angel, it's the exact opposite. So why couldn't it be the same for KD? I think that's what bluegold meant by artistic expression.

by tasser10 on Aug 22, 2007 3:57 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

After thinking about it....
This is not the mode for discussing anything to do with race. So, Jason can do what he deems essential to send his message. I will not try to hold anyone back. This website is for Bruins to come together as one and appreciate the great tradition and excellence exhibited by its athletes on and off the field.

Speaking of Bruins, where is the official gathering of fans and alumni for saturday afternoons in the DC/Philadelphia region, mainly DC. Thanks.

Edit button very essential :p
I hope the double negative in my sentence doesn't send the wrong message. It should have read as, I will try not to hold anyone back.

Hey, you expressed a concern.
Your initial statements upset some, but you apologized.  The original writer acknowledged it and to some extent agreed, and that's that.

As far as I'm concerned, if youdiosagrew tih something in here, feel free to express it, but just remember to do so in as considerate and respectful a manner as you can.  Lesson learned.

Let's move on, everybody.
