Turn The Farm (And The Nation) BLUE

We have been getting tons of emails and lot of comments last few weeks on where Bruins across the Nation are getting together to watch the Stanford game. Well here we go. As we have done in the past we are going to put up this post on game watching parties coast to coast every Thursday night, in which we will list few of the parties we know of, and you can fill in any details you know in the comment thread. Less than 48 hours to go till the army in Bruin blue and gold invade Palo Alto to turn the Stanford Stadium into the Rose Bowl:

While thousands of Bruins are going to watch the (anticipated and expected) Stanford slaughter in person turning the Farm blue, rest of us are going to be watching the game gathered in coast-to-coast at house parties, bars, alumni get-togethers. If you are planning to put together something big, or Bruin alums in your area are putting together a big event around this game, share the details with us in this thread. I know of at least 4 alumni get together in the Bay Area (the alumni tailgate), NYC, DC, and Orange County:

  • Bay Area Bruins are hosting Bruin Bash Tailgate Party kicking off about 3 ½ hours before the game. If you want to join in this tailgate contact Loretta Chopey here.

  • Alums in NYC will be watching at Fat Annie's Truck Stop. Seriously that's what their site says. I am sure Tasser can fill us in on any other details on Fat Annie's located at 131 West 33rd Street betwn 6th and 7th Avenues.

  • Alums in Washington DC will be watching the game at the Ugly Mug - 723 8th St SE (near the Hill). If you are taking the Metro, take the Blue/Orange line to Eastern Market Metro Stop.

  • Orange County, of course, has a huge Bruin contingent. Many of them are in the Bay Area already. For those who couldn't make the trip, there is a Bruin party set up at Malarkey's Irish Pub at 3111 Newport Blvd. Newport Beach. Here are the details.
Again, those are the get-togethers I know of. For more on alumni club football watching parties visit this site. If you have info on where the alumni group are watching the games in your town, post the info here. One note to keep in mind - even though these get togethers are hosted by alums - of course, they are open to every member of Bruins Nation.

GO BRUINS.

$4 beer special
This is why I am hesitant to come back to Cali after law school; out here, $4 is "special" only if you are getting the beer in a quart-size glass.

Oh, on topic. Since Comcast-Charlottesville has seen fit not to air the game on any of its channels (which includes the sorry excuse for a sports bar down the street), I will be trying to find someone living on the UVa campus to watch with, as the on-campus cable system does include FSN, and our game.

(Picture my Friday night: "No, I'm not trying to hook up with you, I only want to go back to your place to be able to watch this football game tomorrow afternoon")

This is just a little OT
but while you're at the sports bar, see if you can catch the Devil Rays game.  The Rays are winners of 5 out of the last 6, and only four games away from being out of last place.  And to put things in perspective, if they only win 26 more in a row, they'll be at .500.

Ladies and gentlemen, you may be watching the birth of a juggernaut.

Ouch!
Just wait - next year, once Joe Madden has his offense installed, the team will be ready to make a move.  They have turned the corner.  There were plenty of positives that came out of having the worst record in baseball.  The team is really getting out the learning curve.  And mainly it was his assistants' fault.

My time on BN has not been wasted.  I'm going to be a spokesman for Joe Maddening.  Hey, pass me some more of that Bruin blue Kool-Aid.

At least in baseball
You have to turn a few corners to score.

Anyone know what radio stations will carry it?
I'll be driving from LA to Sacramento and really want to listen and not just keep reloading a page on my iPhone.

UCLA on the road.
I know there is a Bay Area station that carries UCLA football, but a quick check of the Media Guide only says AM 570.  You should be able to keep a strong signal with them up past Bakersfield.  Looking at Stanford's athletics website, you can pick up the Stanford Broadcast in "The Field" on 1350.  If I remember this station goes all the way up the Central Valley.  If you lose it up north, 710am in Sacramento handles Stanford.  That only gives you the UCLA broadcast up to "The Field" but at least you get coverage.

Best option though, get up early, make the drive and watch the game up in Sacto.  You don't want to be driving up the Central Valley in that heat all afternoon.    It's a scientific fact that college football is 500% more enjoyable with a cold, malted beverage in hand.

XM
If you have XM Radio the game is on channel 194.

Alas
I will not be able to watch the game on Saturday. I am taking a flight to Turkey in about 3 hours. That's right, friggin' Turkey, to attend a wedding of a close family friend.

As usual, I will send good Bruin mojo vibes to our boys and hope everyone stays healthy (except for Stanford's spirit which should be destroyed).

As for Annie's truck stop in NY, it is a bar mostly populated by commuters while waiting for their train from Penn Station. No idea what it's like on the weekends...
