Former Bruin Eric Byrnes gets big contract

The Arizona Diamondbacks have given UCLA alum Eric Byrnes a three-year, $30 million extension.

Congrats to Byrnes on the big contract, and to Arizona for locking Byrnes up, even if the baseball analyst in me thinks this might be a bit much (but only a bit -- Byrnes is good).

Byrnes is having a great season, hitting .303 with 17 homers and 64 RBI.

Byrnes played at UCLA from 1995-1998.

Arizona is currently in first place, two games ahead of San Diego, four games ahead of the Dodgers, and five games ahead of Colorado.

Byrnes is one of the best Bruins there is

he's a regular at the baseball, basketball and football games and his dog, an English Bulldog, is named Bruin.

Might be a bit high

But he's a great defender and you can see that he's on to a career high in walks and OBP, which shows that his high BA may not be an aberration, but a sign of maturity.

Although $10 mill per... Wow, that's some good money :-). Oh well, it's not mine, so congrats Eric!
