UCLA vs BYU Pictures

Bumped. Some great pictures. If you are out there reading BN and would love to share more UCLA pics via flickr account, please share them with us in the diaries, comments, or email links to us. We can never have enough pictures of UCLA football (no matter who is our head coach). GO BRUINS. -N

I took a couple (hundred) photos at the game and I got some decent ones, including this goal line stop (unfortunately right before they got a TD on 3rd down...):

(Click on the image to enlarge - N)

You can see the rest of the pictures by going to my flickr.

For those who aren't familiar with flickr, you can click on a thumbnail to see a small resolution picture, and then click on the magnifying glass right above the photo that says "all sizes" in order to see larger resolutions.  Also, except for a few photos in the beginning, they're all in order, so you can kinda relive the game by watching the slideshow.

Enjoy.

Go Bruins.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

By the way
I love the shots of the crowd.  The blue really stands out.

Keep wearing blue, people.  The student store needs to stop selling pink and green and whatever.

I wonder if BYU appreciated
the free time out that stupid review gave them on 3rd and goal on the 1.

Not to mention
the momentum killer for us.

There are few things more exciting in football than a goal line stand, IMO.  We had stopped them two times in a row and then the replay morons took over, for what seemed like 5 minutes.  It took the crowd right out of it.

Incredible.

The REAL momentum killer...
... is our patented run-up-the-middle-when-the-other-team-is-on-its-heels-after-their-own-turnover-or-a-long-first-down- by-us-for-less-than-3-yards.

SPTR's only try to kill our momentum with knifes and ropes.  Our own coaches try to kill it with assault rifles, flamethrowers, and cluster bombs.

Great pictures
In the one posted here, look how humongous No.74 looks...the dude is a house!

Do you have any pictures of KD's game face at various points during the game? Those would be priceless.

Yeah, but didya get any good shots of . . .
the mauling that BYU put on the Bruin receiver on the Olson pickoff?  That was the most blatant PI-non call I've seen in awhile.  Or of Tevaga getting kicked below the kneecap by the Cougar DL-er he'd pancaked in the 3d qtr (Tevaga mentioned it in the OC Register article on Sunday)?

Great shots.  Did you adjust the color to get the bright blue/gold and gray out everything else, and did you have to use PhotoShop?  Enquiring minds wanna know.

holds
yea, I saw a lot of holds in my pictures afterwards, I was kinda shocked.  There's a facemask on the left side of this photo (warning, loads huge picture so you can see better), which they might have been called for, I know they had one "incidental" facemask.  Then there's this hold (smaller picture) on the right side of the photo.  I tended to shy away from photoghraphing "the bad stuff" like dropped passes (and therefore pass intereference) etc.

To get the color like that I used a program called lightroom, which is a quick editing program designed by adobe to partner with photoshop.  There's a setting called vibrance, which is similar to saturation, but it has a different formula so that it doesn't overkill the colors.  It adds a more "real" saturation to the photo if pushed up a little, and it does what you see above if you push it down.  I also had to increase the blacks a lot (similar to contrast, but it too is a seperate setting).  The other way I know how to do the above is to use photoshop to desaturate all the colors down to black and white, except for blue and gold (which is desaturated a little bit), and then crank the contrast.  Or you can lasso the players and desaturate the photo around them, etc.  I'm kinda just learning how to do all this though, so if someone knows a better way let me know :P

Thanks
And I'll pass your info on to Mrs. Lost, or Mrs. MadBruin (herself a fine UCLA BFA '84, and quite the photobug-PhotoShop guru) and see if she has any tips on the program.

Picture Worth a Thousand Words...
If I wasn't frustrated enough by the reversion into "run, run, pass" I had to stand in the bus line after the game in front of some BYU morons.
All they did is complain about PAC 10 refs.  When I tried to say something I was told you don't care about the refs because you won - what a bunch of crying little babies.
I'll tell you what, look at each of these photo's and there isn't one photo of BYU on offense where their linemen didn't hold.  Having played I know holding goes on almost all the time - but these jack asses blatantly held on for dear life through out the game.  The refs were actually kind and could have called a lot more.
