On ESPN's College Gameday this morning, Bruce Davis' two favorite analysts, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit, both rated UCLA a "buy" for this season (while making a comparison of various football teams to stocks to either "buy" or "sell").
Both Corso and Herbstreit said that UCLA was a "Buy" for the same two reasons: 20 returning starters and a very favorable schedule. This is something we have all heard on BN many times.
Neither Tweedle Dee (Corso) nor Tweedle Dum (Herbstreit) said anything about learning or growing, or our Offensive Coordinator Merry-Go-Round, or making a move, or the complicated West Coast Offense, or injuries, or lack of depth, or any other excuse.
In other words, there are no excuses.
20 returning starters and a very favorable schedule.
This is the year to get it done. This is the "show me" season.
We are playing a very banged-up Utah team today, in a down year for Utah. This is not a slight on Utah which generally has a solid program with good players.
UCLA is ranked No. 11. Objectively, rankings mean nothing. But if UCLA wins today, by simple attrition, they will likely move into the Top 10.
Time to start playing like a Top 10 team. Top 10 teams win on the road. Top 10 teams soundly beat schools they should beat soundly.
Time to act like you belong in the club, UCLA.
Beat the Utes today. Soundly. Show the country that your stock is valuable.
