UCLA Basketball Defense #3 in the Nation.

For the first time since Ben Howland's arrival to Werstwood, UCLA has cracked the Top-3 in scoring defense in the nation, overtaking Wisconsin for third place. Congrats to coach Howland and his most impressive defensive ballclub so far!

With the preseason schedule done, the impressive stats are as follows: We are holding teams down to around 53 points per game, an improvement of over 5 points as opposed to a year ago at this time. We are also out-rebounding our opponents by around 11 rebounds overall, also a significant improvement over last year. Finally, we are holding out opponents so 39.6% from the field, an improvement of 3% over last year at the same time. Check out the full stats underneath:

We are yet to see how these improvements translate to our success in the conference, but the results show a lot of promise for our superior defensive team.

In our next four games, we will face Stanford, where we will be challenged to win the battle of the boards, while our upcoming match with Washington St. will feature two of Nation's top scoring defenses. Anyone care to predict the score?
