Alum offers $100,000 to have Willingham fired

No disrepect to Dump Dorrell and the efforts of all the UCLA fans who put forth pressure on UCLA to make a coaching change, but here is an alum that is willing to back up his desire for a coaching change at his aluma mater:

A former University of Washington alumnus is offering to donate $200,000 to the school if it fires football coach Tyrone Willingham and athletic director Todd Turner, the Seattle Times reported Thursday.

Ed Hansen, a 1966 graduate from the university's law school, sent the first email Oct. 30 to school president Mark Emmert, and sent a second email on Nov. 29 in which he wrote, "By this letter I hereby pledge to contribute a minimum of $100,000 towards a law school scholarship within 90 days, conditioned upon the termination of Ty Willingham as football coach.

"Also, I do not intend to contribute any further funds to the athletic department as long as these two gentlemen are employed by the University."

Also, it is kind of interesting that this story is just now making it into the MSM. This alum probably would have gotten more support across the U-Dub fan base if this came out during the football season.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Can anyone in the MSM write anymore?
I know I'm nitpicking a bit...but what exactly is a "former University of Washington alumnus"? Is it an alumnus who has denounced his ties? What the F? You're either a former student or an alumnus. There's not such thing as a former alumnus.

Response by the MSM
In today's modern world of today, "former alumnus" is the new "don't go there."  Speaking for all of we journalists, and just between you and I, we take great pride in our abbilitys at english grandmar, sintax, spelling, and of cou'rse the us'e of apos-trophey's.  We know better than you anyway, so don't bug us.  Your just hating on us anyway, because some of us are not like you in terms of coloration and hugh of skin.  Your a racist, is what you are.  So there.

Signed

Kurt Streeter, ace urinalist.

I found a grammer error in you're quote above.  Kurt Streeter should have said "in term's of coloration," as he left out the appostrophy.  You see, an appostriphy alert's the reader that an "s" is coming up at the end of a word.

I know your just quoting someone else, but you should of at least noticed that.

Thank's!

not to beat a dad hoarse, but . . .
I think you meant "Kurt Streeter should OF said..."

by palafox on Jan 11, 2008 4:13 PM PST up reply actions

"should HAVE said..."
is grammatically correct. It's just that so many people slur the word "have" when they say that phrase that it starts sounding like "of."

Are you stayting
that the're is something uncorrectt abou't the way we should of said something, or that us got cases or tense's wrong?  We Din't need too take no Subject A.  Us went directly to the wrap of fish and got jobbs becuase of our yooneek skill's.

I saw this
...and wondered if OUR own esteemed Law Prof Emeritus from the Class of 1966 (well, law class '69 at "some other place") was putting similar pressure on DG over the holidays!

Guaranteed that this UW alum and sjh both swing a much heavier bat than I.

Unfortunately, an intellectually sound argument
is not as powerful as a large check.

Somehow, I took the wrong turn out of law school. Instead of buying a couple of good suits and slopping at the trough of high fees, I went to work in legal services and then moved to teaching. I never made any of those big bucks that get thrown around to influence people.

So, the only thing I could do to try to have an impact on the search was to talk about the University's mission of excellence in all areas.

I'm sure I was but a grain of sand on the alum beach when compared to the boulders --  the guys who could threaten to withdraw their big donations.

All of this reminds me that I owe the Chancellor and the AD a "thank you" letter for the search and the hire.

Have the rest of you sent one?

Actually,
it sounds like you took an excellent turn out of law school.

And we both know, money may get quicker action, but which only lasts as long as the money keeps coming. Intelligent thought and reason and passion can change minds, and that lasts forever.

(hmmm...that's not too dramatic for so early in the day, is it?)

As long as we're picking nits,
my nerves wrankle (just made that up; what do you think?) when I see personalized license plate frames boasting of "[school] Alumni." Not "[school] Alumnus," and not "[school] Alumni Association," but "[school] Alumni,".

Why don't the frames just say "[school] Alumni. We learned to talk good there"?

Maybe
both occupants of the car attended the school in question.

This Thread
This thread, so far, is clearly a case of too many people between announcements by RN of his coaching staff makeup, and the BB game has yet to start. Maybe a walk around the block??
