Love Cleared, Howland Looking to Seeding

Bumped from the diaries. GO BRUINS. -N

News and notes:

1) Kevin Love has essentially been cleared by the NCAA after investigation into possible violation of recruiting regulations in June 2006. Andy Katz at ESPN reports that the NCAA determined the contact between Love and our Great John Wooden "was perfectly legal because Wooden is on the UCLA payroll and the meeting took place on campus." As much as we knew this whole thing was ridiculous when it came out, it's still good to see that Love's name will be cleared. I do not fault the NCAA for investigating the matter, as illegal contact is a serious issue, and I applaud them for making the right decision. Link

2) Some Howlandwood gems that haven't been shown here at BN:

From ESPN--

About the win over WSU...

"If you saw him when we won the game, he was screaming in the locker room," Love said. Just watch Coach Howland next time UCLA's playing some D, and you get a good glimpse of what it must be like in the locker room when he's amped up. Gotta love the enthusiasm. And more... Howland has told his team recently that every game matters on the road to becoming a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. He has mentioned the sites and points to Anaheim (first and second round) and Phoenix (regional semifinals and finals), which would give UCLA a potentially friendly and short trek to the Final Four in San Antonio.

"It's early to talk about that publicly," Howland said. "But I do talk about that with my team. It was huge." Howland is running this team with one goal in mind--a national title. Exactly how it should be. All is right in Westwood.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

3 reasons I want us to win Banner 12
(1)  I LOVE OUR BASKETBALL TEAM.

(2)  I LOVE OUR SCHOOL.

(3)  I don't want CBH to run himself so hard and pop blood vessels WITHOUT winning a title in the very near future.

Goal = national title?
You mean, Howland's goal is not to

           MAKE A MOVE?

Oh, I forget -- they don't hang "MADE A MOVE - 2007" bannders inside Pauley.

Yes they do...
They are hanging in the restroom stalls.

Still bitter eh?
That wound will take a while to heal, I'm sure. But take some solace in knowing that, at least, KD is not sitting at home just making moves. Unlike dough-boy Toledo, he's been all over the country interviewing for jobs. And KD getting a paycheck will only help UCLA financially. He might have some pride after all...

Bitter?
He wasted 5 years of my UCLA football life.  5 years where UCLA FB was insignificant, a non-entity.  So, yeah, I'm entitled to be bitter.  Not only towards KD, but toward all those who wanted to keep him forever.

Forget him
Let go my friend. He is gone, none too soon. I'm more worried about the losers who wanted to keep him...they're still around, waiting for the next opportunity to glorify mediocrity.

What violation?
I'm certainly not an expert on recruiting rules but what was the alleged violation if Wooden wasn't on the payroll and didn't meet Love on campus?

Improper Contact
As a donor ot the Athletic Fund I get a letter every year from Dan Guerrero with the do's and don'ts of talking with potential recruits. Since it is highly unlikely I would ever have contact with a potential UCLA recruit I have not paid much attention to the letters, but I understand that donors are considered representatives of the University, so having contact with a recruit can violate NCAA recruiting rules. Of course, there are exceptions for family and for recruits with whom you may have a longstanding personal relationship.  However, I know I can not go down to the local high schoool and talk to a potential recruit.  I am sure others on this board can explain the concept far better than I.
