PB Unleashed: Oregon Pre Game Thread

For the second weekend in a row we will have to wait all day till our Bruins take the field. The kickoff for tonight’s game in Eugene is scheduled for 7:15 pm PST:  2608124660_1c3df5a3c3_medium

Just like the Rose Bowl, the Husky stadium up in Seattle, that is a beautiful setting.

Anyway, before we get to tonight’s game there will be a lot of great football action going on from coast to coast. So time for another pre game thread.

The two headliners for today are the Red River Shootout between #5 Texas and #1 Oklahoma (9:00 am PST) and #4 LSU visiting #11 Florida (5:00 pm PST).  Those are not the only ones. Undefeated #17 Oklahoma State (5-0) is visiting undefeated #3 Missouri (also 5-0). We have interesting matchups for college football junkies in PSU at Wisconsin, Notre Dame at #22 UNC (where Butch Davis’s rebuilding project finally starting to pay some dividends) and Tennessee at Georgia (as Fulmer is desperately fighting to hold on to his job in Knoxville). Full scoreboards and updates via WWL over here.

If you are watching all of these games and want to share your comments, scouting reports (involving any of our future opponents), post your stream of consciousness here. The game thread for tonight will go up about half an hour before kickoff around 6:45 PST.

Enjoy the games.

GO BRUINS.

In Norm Chow We Trust

Oregon’s spread offense can quickly turn a game into a track meet. We haven’t had any success in the past against the spread but DW is going to have to find a way for our defense to bend not break. We cannot give up the big play, especially on 3d downs and must force field goals in the red zone.
On offense, Norm Chow must give K-Craft the keys to the car on Saturday night. The spoon-feeding is over. Nick Aliotti’s defense will be geared to stop the run, especially KB. K-Craft will have to play action fake to KB and throw darts underneath to Moya or downfield to Taylor (the next star) Embree. We don’t need deep patterns, just chunks at 10-12 yards like what USC did last week. Then, we can give the ball to KB. This is the week that K-Craft must step up huge— in a hostile Autzen Stadium. We are a huge underdog, but I believe we can do it. Nick Aliotti’s defense is ranked 111 in the country this week and the Quack Attack has been beaten by Boise State. Besides, Nick owes us one—he stole our National Championship in ’98.

i got a weird feeling about today...

I don’t know why. Probably some combination of our history at Autzen, reports of sloppy Duck practices, and a bit of unreasonable optimism. Still, I expect us to be in this one to the end. I’m calling for an upset here.

Not so weird

I may be high, but I think this is a winnable game. Our D has done better against inexperienced QBs and struggled against top notch/experienced ones. If Roper has to sit, I like our chances much better. I’m going to go ahead and call my shot—we win the upset tonight.

ASU totally inept

2nd missed FG this half, still down 0-21 to the sucsters. 8:00 left 3rd qtr.

2 picks in a row for Sanchez

4 TOs keeping ASU in the game. Carpenter shaken up tho.

UNC had 2 FG's and a missed 2pt conversion

it was a great game too. What a day of football on TV today…Red River shootout, UNC-ND, now Oklahoma State-Missouri, followed by the Bruins. Needless to say I got nothing done today…

SUC driving now

all the way to the ASU 23 on a long run by McNight

Now 0-27

This wasn’t the typical dominating performance. One the SUC scores was an easy pick 6 of Carpenter. So the 4 TOs (against 2 by ASU) kept the SDs in the game until now.

About to go down.

And Michigan lost to Toledo?!!!

Good topic for discussion

Which is the worse upset, Toledo or App St?

by Give me a B... on Oct 11, 2008 3:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Def App. St

But still very rough loss for a first year coach at Michigan. That’s as bad as losing to Washington State at home for a first year UCLA head coach.

On that note

Signing off. Party to go to tonight. Will be TiVoing the game.
