Non-Revenue Sports Bruin Review and Calendar

Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N

Women's Soccer

What do you do when a streak ends? Start a new one of course. After seeing their 10 match shutout streak end last Sunday, the #3 Bruins began a new one this week with a 3-0 win over Arizona St. and a 2-0 win over Arizona. The Bruins beat the Sun Devils in Tempe with goals from three different players and a dominating effort that showed itself in the 20-5 shot total. On Sunday in Tucson, Lauren Cheney led the Bruins with two goals as she moved her goal total to nine to go along with five assists. The Bruin defense was so stingy that the Arizona schools forced goalkeepr Ashley Thompson to make only three saves all weekend. The Bruins (13-0-2, 4-0) will play only one match this week, but it's a big one as they take on #9 USC at the Coliseum on Friday. The match will kick off at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast live on FSN.

Men's Soccer

Just as people began to write the Buins off, they come on strong with a weekend reminiscent of the women's team. UCLA got a 2-0 win over #23 Washington on Friday, then followed it up with a 3-0 win over Oregon St. On Friday the Bruins got two first half goals and goalkeeper Brian Perk made it stick with three saves as he earned the shutout. On Sunday UCLA got two more goals in the first half, then added one more in the second as Perk made six saves. With their two wins this weekend UCLA (5-4-5, 3-1-1) moved into a first place tie in the Pac 10 with Washington and hold the tiebreaker with the Huskies due to their win Friday. The Bruins and Huskies will square off again on Friday as they head to Seattle before visiting Corvallis on Sunday.

Women's Volleyball

#10 UCLA went to the desert this weekend and took care of business as they picked up two wins. First, the Bruins took down Arizona in four sets behind Ali Daley's third consecutive double double. Then in Tempe, the Bruins took care of the Sun Devils in three sets to move their conference record over .500. The Bruins' (14-4, 4-3) next four matches will all be at home, beginning with visits from Cal and Stanford this weekend. Sunday's match versus Stanford wil be at 12:30 and will be on FSN Prime Ticket.

Men's Water Polo

The #4 Bruins got off to a poor start to the week when #2 Stanford came to Southern California and thrashed the Bruins 12-2 Saturday.. The Cardinal jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back as the Bruins dropped their first conference game of the season. The Bruins bounced back nicely on Sunday as they took down #18 Brown 14-2 at the Sunset Rec. Center. The Bruins (9-4, 1-1) next hop into the pool this weekend as they head to the Bay Area for games versus #3 Cal and #16 Pacific.

Women's Golf

The nation's top ranked team sure looked like it this weekend as UCLA went north to the Stanford Intercollegiate and won their third consecutive tournament to open the season. The Bruins finished three shots ahead of the second place team, #2 USC thanks to five Bruins who finished in the top 12 individually. This weekend's win was the first time the Bruins captured the Stanford Intercollegiate title. The team will be off until November 2 when they head to Florida for the Collegiate Match Play Championship.

Cross Country

Both the men and women went to Indiana this weekend for the Pre-NCAA Invitational where the men stole the show with one of their best performances in quite some time. The men's team finished 5th place, led again by Laef Barnes who finished 14th overall. The women's team finished 25th as a team and were again led by freshman Katja Goldring who finished 50th overall. The women sent an extremely young team to Indiana as only one upperclassman competed with four freshmen and two sophomores. Both teams will take the next two weeks off as they prepare for the Pac 10 Championships on October 31.

Men's Golf

The team will split up this weekend as half the team head to Orlando for the Islesworth Collegiate Invitational and the other half heads to Simi Valley for the Bill Callum invitational.

Softball

The Bruins hosted their annual alumni game Saturday and the former Bruins were victorious, pulling out a 5-4 win. Three current Bruins also took on three former Bruins in a home run derby, which the alumni also won 9-4.

Swimming

The Bruins begin their season on Saturday as they host San Diego at 11 am at the Sunset Rec. Center.
