Frankensteins' Monster

the shame of this football season is the fact that the bruins have no quarterback. all of the bruin games this season with perhaps the exception of the byu game were winable if say pat cowan was playing. even with all the so called weaknesses such as the offensive line. the bruins cant make any offensive plays consistantly. with a good to decent qb they would not be a bad team. in the past when the bruins had a so called good team, when the qb went down the team would usually suffer if there was not a reasonable back up qb. right now we don't even have a decent sub. anyway, this team looks like it can be a winner next year once and if the qb situation gets squared away. right now the bruins are like frankensteins' monster, big strong body, bad brain.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

You're delusional

if you think that the team would not be considered bad with a good QB. We still wouldn’t have anything that resembles a running game. How many teams that can’t run the ball are good? Then, when you can’t run the ball your D spends too much time on the field and give up chunks of yards late. On top of that, we lack a receiver to stretch the field consistently. This team lacks talent and even the talent we do have has had their growth stunted until this year by inadequate coaching. No team can consistently move the ball without a decent offensive line and we don’t have a decent offensive line. People like to talk about the flashy WR’s, game breaking RB’s are QB who can throw the ball all over the field, but games are won and lost up front.

You say we’re have a big, strong body and no brain, but where’s that big strong body?

Interesting post...

Like rye said, I don’t see much of a body. There are a few bright spots but for the most part, Neu and Chow are doing the best they can with the talent level they have. I like the fight out the team puts out, but I hate the brain-farts out on the field.

Is it Storm or Anus? Both? Either way, nice first post 5 minutes after joining SB :-)

im with rye

ya craft hasnt been playing the best football, but to think that we would be significantly better with cowan in is not true. We still wouldn’t be able to run the ball. Though QB is a problem, it is not the only problem we have by any stretch of the imagination.

Wrong, Storm.

I don’t know how many Division 1 teams there are, but there are only two which average less yards rushing per game than we do. There is only one which has fewer first downs rushing than we have. Only four teams have worse numbers at yards per rushing attempt. We have allowed 22 sacks. I’m not an expert in football by any stretch of the imagination, but those numbers suggest to me that the line is not doing its job. That’s not to say that the effort is not being put forth by our guys. In fact, I’m sure that just the opposite is true, and our guys are giving everything they’ve got. I am confident that our coaches are doing everything they know to maximize the likelihood that our guys will succeed. But I don’t think I have the talent to play offensive tackle in D-1 football, and all the effort and coaching in the world won’t change that fact. Our guys, now, don’t have the [insert description of what it takes for success, because I don’t know it] to push the D-line where they need to be pushed and they aren’t protecting the QB. That is not to say that these same guys may not find the secret some time in the future, but right now they haven’t found it.

I think Cowan is a good player and has all the heart in the world. But if our run can be stopped with four linemen, that means there are lots of guys to cover our receivers. And if we have no run, then the defense is free to play “let’s meet at the quarterback.” Neither Cowan nor Craft nor Peyton Manning can pass from the supine position.

I think you totally missed the boat here, Storm. But thanks so much for dropping in.

A friendly suggestion

Do us a favor. If you’re going to take the time to post something that you wish people to read, use sentence capitalization. It makes your thoughts easier to parse and your writing easier to read.

Save the “…if say pat cowan was playing. even with all the so called weaknesses …” structure for your phone-text messaging. Writing this way when you have a chance to proof your writing is either obtuse or lazy.
