Ty out at UW coach at year's end
0 wins with an "injury-plagued" team means the axe. If anything this gives even more credit to CRN and his entire staff this year for the progress that has been made.

Does anybody think that someone other than Jim Mora Jr gets the job?
by Ryan Rosenblatt on Oct 27, 2008 5:15 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I don't think it will be Jim Mora
Washington needs someone who has shown the ability to put together a program (or has been around a coach who has put together a solid program). Mora, while an intriguing prospect hasn’t been around college program builders in recent years.
If I were Washington, I’d go all in for Chris Peterson (and Pinkell at MO).

I think they'll make a run at both Petersen and Pinkell
but I don’t think either will take the job. Petersen seems happy in Boise and I think he’ll stick there until the Oregon job comes free. Oregon is the only job I see him leaving for. Pinkel has spent 8 years building Missouri and at 56 years old, I don’t think he wants to get into another long rebuilding job. I know he loves James and loved his time in Seattle, but I don’t think he’s up for another long rebuilding process when he has a good thing going in Missouri.
My guess is those two are their top two choices, but when they don’t work out they go with the alum in Mora. The one guy I could see as a darkhorse in the job is Lane Kiffin though. It wouldn’t shock me to see him get the job, but I think it’ll be Mora.

Good takes
I think John has good takes from Husky fan’s pov at UWDawgPound.

Thanks for the link
There’s some good stuff there. I really think it’d be a good hire if they can get Kiffin and indications at the end of his time with Oakland were that he preferred the college games and would try to get back in it. He was with SC so he has west coast ties and can tap back into the SoCal recruiting area the Huskies have struggled in of late.
Muschamp would be an awesome hire and I would have pushed him harder for the UCLA job last year if I thought there was any shot he’d take the job. The same goes for the Washington situation. i don’t think he takes the job. He’s a hot commodity and will be choosy, waiting for a top job in the south or midwest. If John is correct and neither Mora nor Pinkel nor Petersen wants the job, I could see Pat Hill getting it.
What will be most interesting to me is whether DW gets an interview. Remember last spring the Huskies made a run at him for the DC position and supposedly their AD really liked him. I don’t expect DW to get the job, but whether he gets an interview could be pretty telling with regards to his perception after a season of coaching sub par talent.

Doesn't Jim Mora Jr have a HC gig lined up already?
Last I heard he was going to be named Seahawks HC after Holmgren retires this season. I don’t see him passing that up for UDub.

He's a candidate for the job
and seems to be the favorite to get it, but it’s not set in stone. Keep in mind Mora’s interview while he was the coach in Atlanta where he said he’d love to coach the Huskies and could see him leaving the Falcons for that job. Clearly he loves UW, but if he gets an offer from the Seahawks it’d be tough to turn down considering the difference in money that would be offered.

Kind of funny...
to say that he was fired because of his failure to return to national prominence and follow up the next sentence with the fact that they are 0-7.
And does Pinkell have ties to UW?

Pinkel
From his bio:
Prior to becoming a head coach, Pinkel learned the trade from one of the alltime great coaches, the legendary Don James. For 12 years as an assistant under James at Washington (1979-90), Pinkel helped guide the Huskies to a combined record of 104-37-2 (73.4%) and three Pac-10 Conference titles. He served as UW’s offensive coordinator for seven seasons (1984-90), and helped mold one of the nation’s most potent offensive attacks.
I think he will end up being UDub Football’s Danny Crum and stay where he has built his own program.

I visited the UW blog a few times this year
Those guys suffered with their inept coach just as we suffered for the last five years. They had a fundraiser to do something. But at least they have had the coachectomy done sooner rather than later, so their suffering won’t be as lingering.

Come on, guys. No political shots, please
Your point is made. The President is stupid. Sarah Palin is stupid. McCain is stupid. The people on Saturday Night live are intellectually their superior. Obama and Biden are the two smartest people ever to walk the face of the earth, except maybe for Hillary. How does a shot at a politician advance any point being made about football coaches?

Fair enough, Fox
I was really just going for the grammatical irony.
And Obama and Biden aren’t the 2 smartest people ever. I’d vote for you and ’66 over those 2 anyday!

Jim Mora
Many UW alums are hoping for Jim Mora, Jr. I really think Chris Peterson would be a better choice but he may repeat his refrain from last year, “I’m not going to that place!” (referring to UCLA) I think Peterson stays in Boise until Colorado or Oregon opens up.

According to the AP
Kiffin has expressed interest in the Washington job.

Lot of similarities
between UCLA and UDub. Both were methodical coaches that failed to inspire, turned their backs toward the fanbase/former players and created a rift within the program. I feel for them and they are going to have a loooong road in trying to become competitive again.
Unless James/Pinkel is similar to Smith/Williams at UNC, Pinkel has a good thing going at Mizzou and his recruiting has really picked up so I can’t see him leaving. The program is a mess and the rebuilding job will be quite daunting. I personally don’t see Mora as a college type coach. He spent 1 year under James as a grad asst. If UDub wants to return to their glory years, I don’t think Mora is the answer.
If I’m them, I’m goin’ all in for Peterson. If Peterson is waiting for the Oregon job, he may be waiting for a long time. UDub has the tradition, financial backing from its fanbase and is an upper echelon program that has just fallen on hard times. Get the right person and this program can flourish. In addition, Peterson is a proven commodity. They need to bring in somebody that has credibility and a proven track record just like what we were looking for. They can gamble on a Muschamp, Chip Kelly, etc. but if they’re not the real deal, this program is going to sink even further into the Abyss.

I'm curious
when did UDub become the sexiest choice in all of college football? We’ve had three (3!!) NFL HC’s: Jim Mora, Jr., Mike Tice and now Lane Kiffin all express interest say they’d love to have the job, even go so far as to refer to it as a dream job. WTF? You have a demanding booster set, a diminished recruiting pool (California is now firmly in the grips of USC, UCLA, Cal and Oregon, sorry UDub, this isn’t the 80’s and 90’s) and a horrible, horrible foundation (0-7 this year, don’t make me talk about the last 5 years).
When the UCLA job opened up following the ‘02 season, to my knowledge no NFL HC’s mentioned it even in passing and our prospective candidate list was awful (although in hindsight, Mike Riley could have flourished here – just look what he’s done at Oregon State).

Maybe it's the Seattle thing
Maybe they think it’s a nicer place to live? Or maybe it’s because UW has lower admission standards than UCLA for its athletes?
