Photos: WSU @ UCLA

It started drizzling at the start of last night's game against WSU and I thought to myself, "Uh oh." I imagined slippery balls leading to fumbles and a sloppy game. "This could be really cold, wet and miserable for one of us tonight." Fortunately, the drizzling stopped, the Bruins offense and defense showed up (albeit against a bad WSU team, no offense intended Cougar fans), as the Bruins engineered a workmanlike 28-3 win. It wasn't spectacular, but just what the doctor ordered after a 3-game skid.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Tele -- What a great Sunday Morning Feature
These are absolutely great!
Just curious — equipment and settings?
Is there a rule at the Rose Bowl about bringing in cameras?
Thanks, again.

Nikon D40x
Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor. (usually at 200mm, since I’m in row 77)
Shutter priority (mostly at 1/320, though I tried a few at 1/200, 1/250, and 1/400)
Normally, with a day game, I just set the camera to auto and fire away.
I cropped and digitally enhanced the photos using Jasc PaintShopPro
Rose Bowl policy is no video cameras. They allow “small” still photo cameras. Normally, I have no problem getting in with it, but last week they called a supervisor over to double-check, but I was allowed to bring it in.
Thanks for the compliments! I’m no pro; this Nikon is a great camera.

Your Work is Outstanding
Yes, the camera is outstanding.
But what makes your images great is your eye. You are doing a wonderful job!
I shoot Nikon and have a D3 and a D2x, my daughter has a D60. I’m still hoping to get to CA for a game — it looks like it may be the Oregon State game and, if I thought I could get it in, I’d bring my D3 and my 70/200 2.8 (and a 1.7 converter).
Friday night, I went to Jen’s high school football game. I set the D3 for manual mode and manipulated the shutter speed and aperture to meet my needs. I used “AutoISO”, something I’ve never done before. I got incredible results — pictures shot at ISO 25,600 that were useable after a wee bit of noise reduction.
I’ve been teaching photography seminars and writing a newsletter for the past couple of years. You can see some of the newsletters here http://www.prairiefireproductions.com/honl.html . Let me know if you’d like to be on the mailing list.
I cannot tell you how much I enjoy these day after photo shows. They make the game much more real than watching it on TV.
Thanks.

Wow
Now that’s some camera equipment! Nope, not gonna be able to get those into the Rose Bowl, unless you have a press pass!
Thanks for the link. I took a look at some of the past newsletters and signed up for the mailing list. There’s a lot to learn!
Glad you (and others) enjoy the photos. It’s fun to be able to share the photos with fellow Bruins, and there’s something about still photos that video doesn’t quite capture.
Hope you can get to the OSU game (I might have to miss that one due to a wedding, grrrr! – people ought to know to check the Bruins schedule first!)

Don't they
The blue is always gorgeous, but the high resolution makes it even more so.
Great job, as always, Tele. It makes those of us in exile feel closer to the action.

Appreciate
The photos and the takes before and after the games are greatly appreciated. They are super good. I, otherwise, am switching between Rivals game tracker and the BN thread. But the game comes home on this site, always.
Go Bruins !!
