PB Unleashed: Washington Open Thread

UCLA Bruins at Washington Huskies, Nov 15, 2008 7:15 PM PST

It’s been more than a year since we won a game on the road. Last time our guys won a game on the road was last September (September 29th to be exact) when we pulled off a fluke win against a sloppy Oregon State team. You can forget about Washington coming in unfocused and unprepared. This is their bowl game of their season. They are going to come in with more emotion and fire than they will come in any other game of the season.

So hopefully Bruins can get off to a fast start and maintain that intensity and focus for the entire game:

If you have been under a rock or in seclusion and are trying to figure out why this will be an emotional game, you can check our game page here.

The kickoff time is scheduled for 7:15 pm PST on FSN. As always you can click on the links below under "Related Item" for updated game stats and track the game via UCLA's official site and WWL's game page.

Let’s hope the boys in blue can put it all together.  With that said time to get started with another game thread filled with our passion buckets.

Fire away.

GO BRUINS.

Yeap

If you go through our archives, you should be able to find it. Pretty sure one of us had mentioned it when we signed him up.

just throwing this out there

anyone else think that the ACC is purposely trying to have an unranked champion? Everytime an ACC team gets ranked, they lose right away. It’s getting pretty funny by now

by bucknellbruin on Nov 15, 2008 7:04 PM PST reply actions

ACC

The downfall of Miami and FSU have made it a very boring conference. I wonder if Butch Davis will stick around at UNC.

I have DISH at home, and am in the LA media market, so it should be the same channel.

SEC is so overrated

Florida is incredible and Alabama is solid, but everyone else is a joke

by bucknellbruin on Nov 15, 2008 7:18 PM PST up reply actions

True that.

Florida will run the table this year and win it all again. Urban Meyer is ruthless. Gator fans have to love that.

by Bellerophon on Nov 15, 2008 7:19 PM PST up reply actions

Gators

For some reason I don’t like them very much.

by Nestor on Nov 15, 2008 7:20 PM PST up reply actions

Their fans

are not very pleasant.

But Tebow … you are right … solid kid. I like Meyer too but just something about their program bugs me a lot.

by Nestor on Nov 15, 2008 7:22 PM PST up reply actions

You're right about Tebow, from everything I've heard around here

The remarkable thing about him is that when he played high school ball, he played QB on offense and middle guard on defense. He’s a beast. And apparently a genuinely good guy.

by Fox 71 on Nov 15, 2008 7:24 PM PST up reply actions

Aside from being a great kid, he's a great QB

I’d trade half of our squad to replace Craft with Tebow.

This roster with Tebow in place of Craft, I honestly believe would be at least 6-3 instead of 3-6.

by Bellerophon on Nov 15, 2008 7:27 PM PST up reply actions

yeah

might have something to do with the hardwood…

by bucknellbruin on Nov 15, 2008 7:21 PM PST up reply actions

Speaking of Kick Off's

Would love to see us put it in the end zone. sc’s kicker is consistently there. Made a difference in the game.

by Class of 66 on Nov 15, 2008 7:21 PM PST reply actions

Won't happen until Rotstein is dumped from the job.

I don’t like to call out anyone, but the guy’s sole job is kickoffs. And he’s terrible at it. Something we need to address next year. Maybe the freshman punter Locke can do a better job next season.

by Bellerophon on Nov 15, 2008 7:22 PM PST up reply actions

I still favor the Leach solution

He looked all over campus for a fg kicker and found a guy in the stands.

As we’ve discussed here, there has to be a soccer player or someone else to can kick off.

sjh

by Class of 66 on Nov 15, 2008 7:24 PM PST up reply actions

The Tech kicker story is great

And I’m glad it came to pass under Leach.

Remember the volume control, Bruins.

Do you really need to hear anything any announcer says about the game?

by Fox 71 on Nov 15, 2008 7:26 PM PST up reply actions

You truly are wise

I’m at work right now — they have a TV on the game, with the sound muted.

Based on what I’ve seen in this thread, it really is a blessing. No headaches yet.

DC is perfect for a Norm Chow system

He’s a big bruiser who can run between the tackles. Norm Chow did well with LenDale White at U$C in 2004. If we had a line, just imagine the possibilities.

why is that bad on Craft? It hit the receiver in his hands

sjh

by Class of 66 on Nov 15, 2008 7:52 PM PST reply actions

Can't squeeze it into tight coverage

It looked to me that he tried to force that one in there and gun it in; I think it caught a Washington defender. Even if it hit the WR, with coverage that tight, he should have looked to his second or third read, or thought about swinging out to his right and taking it himself for a few yards.

And if you’re going to force it, you have to throw it in front of the damn receiver, not behind him for the damn coverage to tip it.

This one has to be pinned on Craft though

He threw it directly into single-coverage, and while he got unlucky by it being deflected off the UW player for an interception, it was a poorly-thrown ball to a receiver who wasn’t open.

Of Troy, of course.

Manage the game

It looks like we can run on UW all day. For the rest of the game, Craft just needs to manage the game. UW can’t sustain a drive, they can only score off us from a turnover or a big play.

Is there truly a reason why kickers have to wear a shoe that's a different color?

We’re a big time D-1 school. We ought to be able to afford to get shoes that are the same color. Frankly, I think the different colored shoe business is more than a little affected.

by Fox 71 on Nov 15, 2008 8:29 PM PST reply actions

One shoe is a standard football cleat

The other is a soccer cleat. Hence, two different shoes, and usually, two different colors.

by Bellerophon on Nov 15, 2008 8:30 PM PST up reply actions

OK, get two different pairs of shoes.

But get them the same color. It’s not that complicated. You walk into Tom McAnn and say I want a pair of white soccer shoes and a pair of white football shoes. Voila. Shoe problem solved.

haha

Norris isn't good, but the slant completions isn't his fault

"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"

by silverlakebruin on Nov 15, 2008 8:32 PM PST up reply actions

you can't give the guy the slant

on 3rd and short on a blitz. that’s the only play that could beat him and he gave it to him

by bucknellbruin on Nov 15, 2008 8:32 PM PST up reply actions

Damn it

Where is the cornerback on that play? Grrrr

I SAW TWO HOLDS ON THAT PLAY

Not called

We need to shut UDub down

This defense needs to step up now. Period.

Speaking of missed holding calls

good gawd that was an obvious one up the middle on that quick out

Great pass by Fouch!

Hit Rahim Moore right in stride. Haha.

by Bellerophon on Nov 15, 2008 8:33 PM PST reply actions

yeah

best deep ball to a Bruin all year!

by bucknellbruin on Nov 15, 2008 8:34 PM PST up reply actions

Rahim

I have a feeling he is going to make Eric Turner, Easley, Darbey, Goodwin proud in next few years.

by Nestor on Nov 15, 2008 8:33 PM PST reply actions

wow its awesome

to watch us play against a team with more holes than we do in the roster!

So what if it gets intercepted?

by Barnes2JJ on Nov 15, 2008 8:35 PM PST reply actions

Big surprise

KC looks at one read. Keeps looking at one read. Never looks to another read. Throws it away.

by Bellerophon on Nov 15, 2008 8:35 PM PST reply actions

Nice Punt

And coverage, too.

Los Angeles Rams and the UCLA Bruins!!!!!

Craft is the key

It’s interesting that we don’t need Craft to win the game, but just to make sure he doesn’t lose it for the Bruins.

Their QB is awful!

by UCLA Championships Made Here on Nov 15, 2008 8:40 PM PST reply actions

In terms of quality

This is one of the worst games I’ve ever seen. I love our Bruins, but man, both of these teams are terrible.

by Bellerophon on Nov 15, 2008 8:40 PM PST reply actions

yep

fortunately, we’re slightly less terrible so far

by bucknellbruin on Nov 15, 2008 8:41 PM PST up reply actions

I have seen lot worse

Sun Bowl 1992

Also so many Dorrellian games … with NFL talent.

Notre Dame = last season

I can go on and on and on and on.

by Nestor on Nov 15, 2008 8:43 PM PST up reply actions

Yes and No

That was also the game where Stanford beat SUC and we were watching the fine folks in the press box turned the TVs so the crowd could watch the last couple minutes. And when SUC lost, the crowd roared and roared.

A great and memorable moment during a repulsive game.

by Barnes2JJ on Nov 15, 2008 8:45 PM PST up reply actions

yeah

i remember that so well…i texted every sc fan i knew, then an hour later when we lost got a text back from every single one of them…..

by gbruin on Nov 15, 2008 8:42 PM PST up reply actions

The thing is

I don’t think we are as bad as our 3-6 record indicates just like we weren’t as good as that 10-2 record from the 05-06 season.

by Nestor on Nov 15, 2008 8:44 PM PST up reply actions

Food for thought

For all of the constant hype about SUC’s defense, Stanford ran up a lot of total yardage tonight. The furd looked like crap in the 4th quarter, but check out the final stats.

SUC is vulnerable to the run

That’s how Oregon State beat them…
