PB Unleashed: Washington Open Thread
UCLA Bruins at Washington Huskies, Nov 15, 2008 7:15 PM PST
It’s been more than a year since we won a game on the road. Last time our guys won a game on the road was last September (September 29th to be exact) when we pulled off a fluke win against a sloppy
So hopefully Bruins can get off to a fast start and maintain that intensity and focus for the entire game:

If you have been under a rock or in seclusion and are trying to figure out why this will be an emotional game, you can check our game page here.
The kickoff time is scheduled for 7:15 pm PST on FSN. As always you can click on the links below under "Related Item" for updated game stats and track the game via UCLA's official site and WWL's game page.
Let’s hope the boys in blue can put it all together. With that said time to get started with another game thread filled with our passion buckets.
Fire away.
GO BRUINS.

KC was rated #1 JUCO in Country?
and BO second string in this game?
Things you can learn by watching TV.
Go Bruins!!!

just throwing this out there
anyone else think that the ACC is purposely trying to have an unranked champion? Everytime an ACC team gets ranked, they lose right away. It’s getting pretty funny by now
Anyone know where on Dish Network in Pasadena our game is?
Ms. Class of 67 needs to know.
Thanks.
sjh
Don't have Dish
But she should be able to get it easily. It’s on all Fox Sports Network channels tonight.
does anyone know
if that online link from last week streaming the game? if not anyone have a different one?
yeah i have it bookmarked
it’s just not streaming yet. Hopefully it’ll come on when the game starts

SEC is so overrated
Florida is incredible and Alabama is solid, but everyone else is a joke
by bucknellbruin on Nov 15, 2008 7:18 PM PST up reply actions
True that.
Florida will run the table this year and win it all again. Urban Meyer is ruthless. Gator fans have to love that.
its seriously impossible to hate Tebow
he’s just such a good guy
by bucknellbruin on Nov 15, 2008 7:21 PM PST up reply actions
Their fans
are not very pleasant.
But Tebow … you are right … solid kid. I like Meyer too but just something about their program bugs me a lot.
You're right about Tebow, from everything I've heard around here
The remarkable thing about him is that when he played high school ball, he played QB on offense and middle guard on defense. He’s a beast. And apparently a genuinely good guy.
Aside from being a great kid, he's a great QB
I’d trade half of our squad to replace Craft with Tebow.
This roster with Tebow in place of Craft, I honestly believe would be at least 6-3 instead of 3-6.
yeah
might have something to do with the hardwood…

Speaking of Kick Off's
Would love to see us put it in the end zone. sc’s kicker is consistently there. Made a difference in the game.
sjh
Won't happen until Rotstein is dumped from the job.
I don’t like to call out anyone, but the guy’s sole job is kickoffs. And he’s terrible at it. Something we need to address next year. Maybe the freshman punter Locke can do a better job next season.
I still favor the Leach solution
He looked all over campus for a fg kicker and found a guy in the stands.
As we’ve discussed here, there has to be a soccer player or someone else to can kick off.
sjh
The Tech kicker story is great
And I’m glad it came to pass under Leach.
These guys
Are not “A” list broadcasters. Not saying much because I don’t have a lot of respect for “A” list people in this profession.
Remember the volume control, Bruins.
Do you really need to hear anything any announcer says about the game?
You truly are wise
I’m at work right now — they have a TV on the game, with the sound muted.
Based on what I’ve seen in this thread, it really is a blessing. No headaches yet.

was not on FSN
Like the cable box said. On Prime Ticket instead.
We should be able to run the ball...
…especially seeing how one of their DTs is a converted FB from a few years ago.
I never liked Ebell
Was too much of a crybaby. Glad MJD took his job and put him on the bench and the bus to UTEP.
yeah
and I think Bell is clearly not our best option at RB anymore, so not happy with plays that showcase him.

Shot put, I can see
He seems a little large for discus, but I guess there isn’t as much specialization in college.
Petros is channeling me
That’s twice already.
I am now thinking to myself…Say “I am insane”.
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
I have said this before
I think Petros is ok. I think his football commentary is decent and he was very good last year in calling out KD.
I don't think he deserves a lot of points for mentioning that we had no coach
That was patently obvious to all but Streeter.
Is it just me, or does Petros have a very annoying voice?
Yeah, I have the volume up, but it’s about to go off.
He is no Barry White.
More like he is gargling Marlboros and broken glass.
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
DC is perfect for a Norm Chow system
He’s a big bruiser who can run between the tackles. Norm Chow did well with LenDale White at U$C in 2004. If we had a line, just imagine the possibilities.
Once we get NC the tools, this is going to be fun to watch.
This proves the point I've tried to make the last couple of years
our D comes out weak — no one can blame the O for the D giving ground now.

Dear Brett Lockett,
You get smoked one-on-one with running backs and receivers all the time. You have been burned…bad.
Until you redeem yourself, don’t flex your muscles like you’re the man. Just do your job. Leave the flexing to Harwell.
Haha.
I love that...
…running the ball up the field, north-south style running. No flash, no gimmicks, just getting up the field.
Thank God for the internet link

Fuck! That was one of my keys of the game
why is that bad on Craft? It hit the receiver in his hands
sjh
definitely not bad on craft..well maybe passed a little behind forcing the receiver to adjust wrong? you can spin it any way if you really just did not like craft.. but i don't think it was his fault, mainly the receiver
Can't squeeze it into tight coverage
It looked to me that he tried to force that one in there and gun it in; I think it caught a Washington defender. Even if it hit the WR, with coverage that tight, he should have looked to his second or third read, or thought about swinging out to his right and taking it himself for a few yards.
Versus
By the way, for everyone who suffered through the SUC game, Versus proves once again that it is the very worst channel/network/whatever it is on television. From the announcers, to the camera angles, etc.
It’s so, so horrible.
Pete Carroll hates puppies.
too bad
because I love watching their Tour de France coverage, so was hoping they would do better with hockey and college FB.
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
Haven't seen
their Tour de France coverage, so I’m gonna have to trust you on that. I just wish they would stay away from college fb.
Pete Carroll wears ladies' clothes.
Once again, KC forces it in there
Does this kid not understand that you cannot force the ball into tight coverage?!
And if you’re going to force it, you have to throw it in front of the damn receiver, not behind him for the damn coverage to tip it.
Bret Johnson
would have if they wouldn’t have benched him for Mattox.

good lord
the first one was catchable, but that one was on Craft
by insomniacslounge on Nov 15, 2008 8:02 PM PST reply actions
This one has to be pinned on Craft though
He threw it directly into single-coverage, and while he got unlucky by it being deflected off the UW player for an interception, it was a poorly-thrown ball to a receiver who wasn’t open.

But Sloan is my freshman guy on defense. I think the kid might develop into a real solid MLB in the Christian Taylor mold. I really like a linebacker corps of Ayers, Sloan, and Carter next year.

I'm tired of hearing this "oh woe, there's no African-American coaches"
Yes, Petros, last year this game had two African-American coaches. Next year, it’ll have none.
And it has nothing to do with their race.
It has everything to do with the face both coaches sucked. Epically.
I don't think the complaint is w/ the firing practice
But rather the hiring practice.

It looks like we can run on UW all day. For the rest of the game, Craft just needs to manage the game. UW can’t sustain a drive, they can only score off us from a turnover or a big play.

Is there truly a reason why kickers have to wear a shoe that's a different color?
We’re a big time D-1 school. We ought to be able to afford to get shoes that are the same color. Frankly, I think the different colored shoe business is more than a little affected.
One shoe is a standard football cleat
The other is a soccer cleat. Hence, two different shoes, and usually, two different colors.
OK, get two different pairs of shoes.
But get them the same color. It’s not that complicated. You walk into Tom McAnn and say I want a pair of white soccer shoes and a pair of white football shoes. Voila. Shoe problem solved.
